PRODUCT MANAGER – UPI B2C

About Us:

Airtel Payments Bank, India's first payments bank, is a completely digital and paperless bank. The bank aims to take basic banking services to the doorstep of every Indian by leveraging Airtel's vast retail network in a quick and efficient manner.

At Airtel Payments Bank, we are transforming the way banking operates. Our core business is banking and we are set out to serve each unbanked and underserved Indian. We are a fun-loving, energetic, and fast-growing company that breathes innovation.

We encourage our people to push boundaries and evolve from skilled professionals of today to risk-taking entrepreneurs of tomorrow. We hire people from every realm and offer them opportunities that encourage individual and professional growth.

We are always looking for people who are thinkers and doers; people with passion, curiosity, and conviction; people who are eager to break away from conventional roles and do jobs never done before.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Product Manager to drive the growth and evolution of our UPI B2C (consumer payments) product. You will be responsible for crafting seamless, reliable, and scalable UPI payment experiences across core use cases such as P2P transfers, P2M payments, collect requests, autopay, and value-added features.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve user acquisition, engagement, transaction success rates, and monetization opportunities, while ensuring compliance with NPCI and RBI guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Road mapping

  • Define and execute the roadmap for UPI B2C product experiences (send money, scan & pay, onboarding, collect, autopay, etc.)
  • Identify growth opportunities across user acquisition, activation, engagement, and retention
  • Benchmark against competitors and identify gaps
  • Define product KPIs (TPV, transactions, success rate, DAU/MAU, retention)

UPI Product Development & Optimization

  • Own end-to-end lifecycle of UPI features—from ideation to launch to iteration
  • Improve payment success rates, latency, and reliability across flows
  • Build and enhance core journeys:
  • P2P transfers
  • P2M QR payments
  • Collect requests (intent & mandate flows)
  • UPI Autopay & subscriptions
  • Work on integrations with NPCI/PSP banks and manage dependencies

User Experience & Growth

  • Design intuitive, low-friction payment journeys with strong UX focus
  • Optimize onboarding, first transaction experience, and repeat usage
  • Build user personas and optimize journeys for different cohorts

Data, Analytics & Experimentation

  • Monitor core funnels: onboarding → activation → repeat usage
  • Track key metrics: success rate, failure reasons, latency, drop-offs
  • Run A/B experiments for feature improvements and growth initiatives

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering for sprint planning and execution
  • Partner with risk, compliance, and fraud teams to ensure safe transactions
  • Collaborate with business, marketing, and partnerships teams for adoption
  • Coordinate with customer support to improve issue resolution flows

Risk, Compliance & Reliability

  • Ensure product compliance with NPCI and RBI UPI guidelines
  • Work on fraud detection, transaction monitoring, and prevention systems
  • Improve dispute handling, reversals, and grievance workflows
  • Ensure system uptime, scalability, and failover mechanisms

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 2–7 years of experience in Product Management (preferably fintech/payments/consumer apps)
  • Strong understanding of UPI ecosystem, payment flows, and user journeys
  • Familiarity with NPCI guidelines, UPI architecture, and bank integrations
  • Strong analytical mindset with ability to interpret funnel and transaction data
  • Experience with Agile frameworks (Jira, Scrum)
  • Excellent problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills

Good to Have:

  • Experience working on high-scale consumer apps (payments, fintech, or super apps)
  • Exposure to payment success optimization and transaction routing
  • Familiarity with fraud detection systems and risk rules in payments
  • Experience working with APIs and external integrations (banks, PSPs, NPCI)
  • Strong growth/product experimentation background
