Product Manager Smart Electricity Meters

Location: Kolkata/Noida

Experience: 8–15 Years

Position Summary: We are looking for experienced Product Managers to lead the strategy, planning, and lifecycle management of GridCrest's smart electricity metering portfolio. The role combines product strategy, market analysis, standards management, customer engagement, and project leadership to ensure our products remain globally competitive while meeting evolving utility and regulatory requirements.

The Product Manager will act as the bridge between customers, business development, engineering, validation, manufacturing, and program management, translating market requirements into scalable product platforms and successful product launches.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Platform Management

• Define the long-term product roadmap for GridCrest's smart electricity meter portfolio.
• Develop common product platforms that can be adapted for domestic and international markets.
• Identify opportunities for platform standardization while minimizing product variants.
• Drive product positioning based on technology trends, regulatory changes, and customer needs.

Market & Customer Requirements

• Study utility requirements across India and international markets.
• Evaluate tender specifications and identify emerging market requirements.
• Translate customer needs into detailed Product Requirement Documents (PRDs).
• Define market-specific product variants while maximizing platform reuse.

Tender & Standards Management

• Review technical specifications of domestic and international tenders.
• Identify deviations from standard GridCrest platforms - Highlight gaps between tender requirements and applicable standards such as: IS 16444, IS 15959, IS 16334, DLMS/COSEM, IEC Standards, MID (where applicable),
• Recommend product enhancements based on recurring customer requirements.

Product Development - Work closely with Hardware, Embedded Software, Mechanical, Communication, and Cloud teams | Convert business requirements into engineering requirements | Participate in design reviews throughout the development lifecycle | Support Engineering Change Management (ECO/ECR).

New Product Introduction (NPI) - Work with Validation teams to define complete validation plans | Ensure products comply with applicable standards and customer specifications | Support certification and regulatory approvals.

Project Management - Track schedule, risks, dependencies, and deliverables | Coordinate cross-functional teams to achieve timely product launches.

Product Lifecycle Management - Manage products from concept to end-of-life | Support cost optimization and value engineering initiatives | Monitor field feedback and drive continuous product improvement.

Competitive Intelligence – (a) Benchmark competitor products and technologies. (b) Track global trends in: Smart Metering, Communication Technologies, Grid Digitalization, AI-enabled Utilities

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related discipline.
• 8–15 years of relevant industry experience in the electricity metering industry is mandatory either from a metering company or from a utility company. Exposure to embedded hardware and/or embedded firmware development is highly desirable.

Preferred Technical Knowledge - IS 16444, IS 15959, IS 16334, DLMS/COSEM, IEC Metering Standards, RF Mesh. Cellular (2G/4G/NB-IoT), PLC Communication, BLE, AMI, HES, MDM, Meter-to-Cash Architecture, Utility Communication Protocols
