About the job

About firstbriq

firstbriq is building an AI-powered platform that fixes how Indians plan, price, and execute home interiors — an industry defined by chaos, opacity, and cost overruns. We serve homeowners with planning and estimation tools and vendors with SaaS to run their business. Small team, high AI leverage, shipping fast.

About the role

We're not hiring you to write code from someone else's designs. We're hiring you to help build a product end-to-end. You're expected to think through a feature, sketch how it should work, design the interface, write the code, ship it, test it, and improve it.

You'll work directly with the founder on real product decisions. You'll use modern AI tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, v0, Figma AI, just to name a few) across every stage of your work and compress the distance from idea to working feature aggressively.

You don't need to be an expert at UX or engineering. You need enough fundamentals across both, real curiosity, and the ability to figure things out.

This isn't a role for someone who only wants to code from predefined tickets or designs. It's also not a pure design role. We're looking for someone who wants to get their hands dirty across the entire product-building process.

What you'll actually do

Product & UX

  • Translate product requirements into user flows and basic wireframes
  • Think through user journeys before writing code
  • Propose UI solutions in Figma and iterate with the founder
  • Spot usability issues in existing features and suggest fixes

UI design & implementation

  • Convert wireframes into polished, responsive interfaces
  • Apply firstbriq's brand guidelines consistently
  • Build reusable components using shadcn/ui or similar libraries

Web development

  • Build and ship frontend features in React / Next.js
  • Integrate REST APIs and handle loading, error, and empty states
  • Build dashboards and internal tools
  • Deploy and maintain features in a production environment
  • Ensure responsive behaviour across desktop, tablet, and mobile

Code quality & cleanup

  • Work with firstbriq's existing production codebase, which is a meaningful part of the role
  • Refactor redundant or inconsistent code, improve component reusability
  • Maintain consistent structure and documentation
  • Fix bugs and improve reliability
  • AI-assisted development (a layer across everything above): AI tools will be used across product exploration, UX, UI, coding, debugging, testing, and documentation, and not as a separate stage.
  • Use AI coding tools as part of daily workflow, not as a novelty
  • Understand, review, and test AI-generated code rather than blindly accepting it
  • Use AI to understand unfamiliar parts of the codebase
  • Prototype UI and features using AI-assisted design tools
  • Experiment with Agentic AI workflows where useful

You don't need AI expertise on day one, but you need the willingness to work AI-in-the-loop by default. We want an AI-assisted developer, not an AI-dependent one.

Testing & iteration

  • Test across devices and browsers
  • Debug functional and responsive issues
  • Validate new work doesn't break existing features
  • Incorporate user feedback into iterations

Requirements

Must have

  • Basic working knowledge of React, or willingness and ability to become productive in React quickly
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript fundamentals
  • Familiarity with Git/GitHub
  • Understanding of responsive design and REST APIs
  • Basic UI/UX sense; can create wireframes and think about user flows
  • Ability to read and modify existing code, not just write new code
  • Strong problem-solving and self-learning ability

Good to have

  • Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS
  • shadcn/ui or similar component libraries
  • Figma proficiency
  • Basic understanding of backend services, databases, or server-side development
  • Experience with AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, v0)
  • Personal projects or GitHub portfolio
  • Deployed something on Vercel/Netlify/AWS
  • Interest in home interiors, real estate, or the Indian consumer market

What you'll learn

  • Turning an idea into a shipped feature
  • Working with a real production codebase, not tutorials
  • Refactoring and improving an existing production codebase
  • React, Next.js, and modern frontend patterns
  • API integration and full-stack thinking
  • Deploying and maintaining features in production
  • Using AI tools to move 3–5x faster than traditional development
  • How product, design, and engineering decisions come together
  • What building a startup from zero actually looks like

First 2 weeks / 30 days / 60 days

We compress ramp-up aggressively. AI tools make understanding a codebase far faster than it used to be — we expect you to use them.

Week 1–2: Get set up, understand the codebase with AI assistance, and ship your first small fix or component. Get comfortable with our workflow.

  • Day 30: Take ownership of a feature end-to-end (wireframe to production) with guidance where required.
  • Day 60: Ship features with increasing independence, contribute to product decisions, and drive code quality improvements.
  • Beyond: Propose new ideas, own larger surfaces, and grow into a founding-team role if things click.

Logistics

Duration: Minimum 3 months, extendable to 6 months for strong performers

  • Mode: Hybrid (Bengaluru preferred; remote considered for exceptional candidates)
  • Time commitment: Full-time preferred, minimum 30 hrs/week
  • Reports to: Founder directly
  • Conversion: Strong performers will be offered full-time roles as firstbriq scales

How to apply

  • Send us: GitHub profile or portfolio link
  • One thing you've built (personal project, hackathon, freelance — anything counts)
  • Any AI tools you've used and what you built with them

Selection process: Portfolio review → 30-min call → small take-home task → founder interview
