Product Engineer

Vedantu is looking for a Product Engineer for our Vedantu Early Learning (VEL) team who can take a business problem from idea to production with minimal hand-offs.

This is not a traditional engineering role where you simply receive a PRD and implement predefined requirements. You will work directly with the VEL business team to understand problems, design solutions, build them, deploy them, and continuously improve them.

The goal is simple: reduce the distance between a business problem and a reliable product in production. You will be part of Vedantu Engineering while working closely with the VEL business team.

What You'll Do

• Work directly with business stakeholders to understand requirements, workflows, and problems.
• Translate business problems into simple, scalable product and technical solutions.
• Understand Vedantu's existing products, codebase, APIs, databases, and systems before deciding whether to reuse, extend, or build.
• Make product and implementation decisions jointly with business stakeholders.
• Own features end-to-end — requirement → design → development → testing → deployment → monitoring → iteration.
• Build production-grade backend systems and services primarily using Java.
• Work with existing APIs, services, databases, and internal platforms.
• Use LLMs and AI coding tools extensively to research, design, code, debug, test, and ship faster.
• Write automated tests and validate your own work.
• Instrument what you build and use production data and feedback to improve it.
• Balance speed with engineering quality, security, maintainability, and reliability.
• Challenge unnecessary complexity and continuously look for ways to reduce the steps between an idea and production.

What We're Looking For

Must Have:

• 1–3 years of software engineering experience, ideally around 2 years.
• Strong programming fundamentals and proficiency in Java.
• Strong understanding of backend development, APIs, and software design fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot or a similar Java backend framework.
• Experience with at least one SQL or NoSQL database.
• Experience building and shipping software used in a real production environment.
• Ability to take a loosely defined problem and turn it into a working solution.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable interacting directly with business and non-technical stakeholders.
• High ownership and a strong bias toward shipping.

Strong Plus

• Experience working in a product company or fast-moving startup.
• B2C, EdTech, e-commerce, or consumer technology experience.
• Experience independently owning features from requirement through production.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and production deployments.
• AWS/GCP/Azure, Docker, CI/CD, or microservices experience.
• Experience with tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar AI coding environments.
• Experience building internal tools, workflow automation, or business-facing products.
• Experience writing automated tests and monitoring production systems.

What Makes This Role Different

In a conventional product development cycle, a requirement may pass through multiple people before reaching production.

Here, we want to dramatically shorten that loop:

Understand → Decide → Build → Test → Ship → Measure → Improve

You'll have access to the broader Vedantu Engineering team for architectural guidance and support with complex systems, but you will own getting the solution into production.

The goal isn't to write more code. The goal is to solve the right business problem and get a reliable solution into users hands quickly.

• The VEL team sees Engineering as a direct problem-solving partner rather than the final stage of a lengthy requirements process.
