Role Description

We are hiring a Product Designer who can take a STEM toy from concept to mass-production.

Your role is to conceptualize, design, prototype, and refine STEM toys for children aged 4 –12, with a strong focus on MDF, cardboard, paper and sustainable materials. This role demands a strong balance of play thinking, engineering logic & sustainability mindset.You will be responsible not only for designing toys but also for testing them with children, refining based on feedback, and supporting production andcosting.

(Candidates with prior hands-on product design experience in STEM toy companies (Smartivity, Imagimake, Funvention, Skillmatics, PlayShifu, or equivalent are strongly preferred).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in:
  • Toy Design
  • Product Design
  • Industrial Design
  • Or related design discipline
  • (Graduates from NID, MIT Institute of Design, Srishti, UID, Pearl Academy, etc. preferred)
  • Passion for children's education, creativity, and sustainable design is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities-

Concept & Design

  • Design STEM toys for children aged 4 –12 years
  • Translate learning objectives into engaging play mechanics
  • Develop toy structures, mechanisms & assemblies
  • Create toys that are fun, intuitive, and repeat-play friendly
  • Develop strong play narratives / storytelling around products

Prototyping & Testing

  • Build physical prototypes using MDF, cardboard, paper, and eco-friendly materials.
  • Conduct user research, including:
  • Playtesting sessions with children
  • Feedback sessions with parents
  • Iterate designs based on real-world feedback

Production-Ready Design (Design For Manufacturing)

  • Develop production-ready designs
  • Support manufacturing with:
  • Component specifications
  • Material inputs
  • Tolerances and fit
  • Assembly logic
  • Prepare BOM (Bill of Materials)
  • Optimize designs for:
  • Cost efficiency
  • Waste reduction
  • Mass manufacturing feasibility

Documentation & Instructions

  • Design instruction booklets
  • Create clear, child-friendly assembly instructions
  • Ensure instructions are intuitive for both children and parents
  • Ensure safety, durability & child-friendly design

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with:
  • Manufacturing teams
  • Vendors
  • Founders
  • Assist during pilot production runs and sampling
  • Support troubleshooting during production

REQUIRED SOFTWARE SKILLS

The candidate must be proficient in:

  • Adobe creative suite, Rhinoceros, Fusion 360, SolidWorks
  • Experience with laser cutting & die-cut tooling files is a strong plus.

Portfolio MUST Include

  • Strong portfolio showcasing STEM toy projects
  • Photos/videos of prototypes.
  • Explanation of problem solution play outcome
