NutriScan App is an AI nutrition tracking and diet planning app with 100k+ downloads.
People use NutriScan to scan meals, log food by photo, voice, or text, create diet plans, track calories and macros, understand NutriScore, spot eating patterns, and ask an AI nutrition coach for help.
We are hiring a Product Design Engineer who can work between product design and front-end implementation for this new category of AI health and nutrition product.
This AI role is still new to the industry, so we know candidates may not have a perfect reference point.
This role is for someone who cares deeply about mobile UX, habit formation, visual craft, interaction design, AI behavior, and systems, but also wants the work to survive beyond a Figma file.
You do not need to be a full-stack engineer.
What you will work on:
- Turn nutrition and habit-building problems into clear mobile flows, screens, and working prototypes.
- Design fast meal logging flows across photo scan, voice input, text input, repeat meals, favorites, and meal history.
- Use Figma when it helps thinking, but move to code when behavior, timing, states, or AI responses need to be tested.
- Design AI-specific states like scanning, analyzing, streaming, partial results, confidence, corrections, refusals, failed scans, and recovery paths.
- Design trust-building moments around nutrition estimates, editable results, source clarity, health context, and user feedback.
- Create prototypes that product, engineering, and stakeholders can click, resize, review, and test.
- Write lightweight specs that explain what the feature does, what states exist, and what engineers should not have to guess.
- Work with engineers during implementation, not only before handoff.
- Use AI tools responsibly to explore, prototype, critique, and pressure-test design decisions.
What we are looking for
- 2 to 5 years of experience in product design, UX/UI design, design engineering, mobile app design, or a similar product-building role.
- Strong product thinking and visual craft.
- Experience designing consumer mobile products with clear flows and polished interaction details.
- Basic front-end comfort with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, React Native, Flutter, SwiftUI, or similar tools.
- Ability to prototype ideas in code, even if the prototype is rough and throwaway.
- Ability to work closely with PMs and engineers without creating heavy handoff documents.
- Curiosity about AI tools like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, v0, or similar tools.
Good to have
- Experience designing AI, health, fitness, nutrition, food logging, habit tracking, subscription, or consumer mobile products.
- Experience with React Native, Flutter, SwiftUI, mobile design systems, or app store product flows.
- Experience writing specs, PR notes, design QA notes, or handoff checklists.
- Experience reviewing UI in production, TestFlight, Play Console builds, or staging environments.
- A portfolio that shows not only polished screens, but also tradeoffs, rejected directions, states, and shipped product work.
