Job Description

Position Overview

The Aerospace Bearing Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, analysis, and validation of high-precision bearings used in aerospace applications, including aircraft engines, landing gear, actuation systems, and airframe mechanisms. The role requires expertise in advanced bearing technologies, materials and aerospace standards to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Bearing Design & Development

Design rolling-element bearings (ball, roller) and Spherical plain bearing for aerospace systems according to application requirements.

Perform analytical calculations for life, load distribution, stiffness, friction, thermal behaviour, and fatigue through Mesys OR Romax

Develop detailed 2D/3D designs using CAD tools (Creo,ZWCAD).

Define internal geometry, calculate load ratings and tolerance stack-ups.

Select appropriate aerospace grade materials and heat-treatment processes (through-hardened, case-carburized steels, ceramics, coatings).

Implement Design for Reliability (DfR), Design for Manufacturability (DfM), and design automation methodologies

2. Aerospace Compliance & Documentation

Ensure bearing design meets relevant aerospace standards such as: o AS9100 o FAA/EASA requirements o MIL-specs, EN Specification o ISO/ABMA bearing standards

Create design reports, DFMEAs, ATP, QTP, QAP, technical specifications, and engineering change documentation.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work with manufacturing engineering to optimize manufacturability, process flow, and cost.

Collaborate with suppliers on soft machining, heat treatment, coatings, and special processes (NDT).

Provide design support to customers (OEMs, Tier-1 aerospace suppliers) and participate in technical reviews.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.

510 years of experience in bearing design or precision mechanical component design (depending on seniority).

Strong understanding of: o Rolling-element bearing theory o Materials science & heat treatment o Tolerance analysis & GD&T

Hands-on experience with CAD and Application analysis software (Mesys /Romax).

Familiarity with aerospace quality standards and documentation.

Knowledge of manufacturing processes: turning, grinding, honing, carburizing, superfinishing.

Exposure to reliability engineering and root-cause analysis (8D, Fishbone, FTA).
