Your Job
As a Product Design Engineer, you will support the design and development of plastic and sheet metal components for connector products. You will contribute to design modification projects, product maintenance, SPO projects, VAVE initiatives, and selected new product development activities while working closely with cross‑functional teams, consistently demonstrating Principle Based Management (PBM)‑aligned behaviors such as ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
About The Team
You will be part of the MSBU group, specializing in the design and manufacturing of connectors for consumer applications.
Our product portfolio includes FPC/FFC, BB, and IO connectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of assigned products within the existing product portfolio, supporting day‑to‑day engineering activities
- Support design modification, product maintenance, VAVE, incremental improvement, and SPO projects under guidance from senior engineers
- Participate in the design and development of plastic and sheet‑metal components for connector products
- Execute design changes using engineering fundamentals, ensuring functional, dimensional, and manufacturability requirements are met
- Create and update 3D models and 2D drawings, applying basic GD&T per design requirements
- Support tolerance considerations and fitment checks for mating and assembled components
- Assist in material selection based on mechanical performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements
- Review and support interpretation of FEA results for design validation and improvement
- Apply DFM principles to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and cost
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, to resolve design and production issues
- Prepare and maintain design documentation, engineering change records, and technical reports
- Communicate design status, issues, and recommendations effectively with peers, supervisors, and manufacturing plants
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in product or mechanical design
- Understanding of the end‑to‑end product development process
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
- Hands on experience in tolerance analysis, GD&T, DFMEA, and DFM
- Familiarity with plastic and sheet metal manufacturing processes
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and root‑cause analysis skills
- Self‑driven, adaptable, and eager to develop deeper technical expertise
- Good written and verbal communication skills
What Will Put You Ahead
- Owns product design and engineering decisions with accountability, professionalism, and integrity.
- Designs for value—balancing performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability—using DFM and tolerance best practices.
- Uses data, facts, and engineering analysis (DFMEA, tolerance analysis, test results, FEA) to justify decisions and mitigate risk.
- Applies continuous improvement methods (VAVE, SPO, incremental changes) to enhance product performance and reduce cost.
- Hands-on experience in product design and maintenance, especially for plastic and sheet-metal components in high-volume or precision products.
- Collaborates openly across functions and with manufacturing plants or suppliers to ensure smooth design transfer and manufacturability.
- Seeks learning opportunities, challenges assumptions responsibly, and adapts to changing business priorities and technical requirements.
- Demonstrates practical experience with design modifications, supplier/manufacturer engagement, and implementation of manufacturable solutions.
