We are looking for a dynamic and commercially driven Procurement & Purchasing Manager to lead the purchasing function within a fast-paced ship management environment. The ideal candidate will combine strong procurement expertise with leadership capability, operational agility, and a solutions-oriented mindset to support fleet operations efficiently and cost-effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 5–6 Purchase Executives/Senior Executives.
- Ensure all procurement activities are completed accurately and within timelines.
- Respond promptly to internal and external stakeholder requirements.
- Monitor team KPIs, performance metrics, and departmental efficiency targets.
Strategic Procurement & Cost Control
- Develop and implement procurement strategies focused on cost optimization, quality assurance, and risk mitigation.
- Drive aggressive cost-saving initiatives aligned with vessel operational requirements.
- Negotiate high-value contracts with major suppliers for:
- Lubricating Oil
- Paints & Chemicals
- Engine Spares
- Technical Stores
- Monitor supplier contracts and vendor performance to ensure compliance and service delivery.
Process & Systems Management
- Lead the development and optimization of the JOT ERP system and procurement workflows.
- Utilize data analytics and IT tools to improve operational efficiency and reporting.
- Oversee the complete procurement cycle from requisition to delivery onboard vessels.
- Coordinate closely with vessels, technical teams, and suppliers on operational matters.
Vendor & Quality Management
- Build and maintain a strong global vendor network and approved supplier database.
- Evaluate vendor performance and take decisions regarding vendor approval/blocking.
- Promote environmentally sustainable and GREEN purchasing initiatives.
- Ensure high standards of quality, compliance, and timely supply delivery.
Must-Haves
- Prior sailing experience of 3–4 years as 3rd / 4th Engineer preferred
- Prior experience in Procurement/Purchasing within a Ship Management or Shipping Company is mandatory.
- Proven experience handling marine procurement for vessels.
- Strong knowledge of marine stores, technical spares, lubricants, chemicals, and vendor management.
- Experience managing and mentoring procurement teams.
- Strong negotiation and commercial management skills.
- Exposure to ERP systems (preferably JOT ERP or similar procurement platforms).
- Strong analytical and reporting capabilities.
- Graduate in any discipline
