Role Title/Position:
Process Quality Engineer – Assembly / Electrode / Formation
Purpose of Role:
To monitor, control, and continuously improve process quality across Electrode, Assembly, and Formation operations in Li-ion cell manufacturing. The role is responsible for ensuring all manufacturing stages comply with defined quality standards, process controls, and operational requirements to achieve optimal product performance, reliability, safety, and manufacturing excellence.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Oversee process quality activities across Electrode, Assembly, and Formation manufacturing areas.
- Monitor critical process parameters and product quality characteristics to ensure compliance with defined standards and specifications.
- Develop, implement, and optimize SOPs, control plans, inspection standards, and quality procedures for manufacturing processes.
- Conduct process audits and ensure adherence to quality systems, manufacturing protocols, and process discipline.
- Utilize statistical tools such as SPC, process capability analysis, trend monitoring, and root cause analysis to identify process deviations and drive improvements.
- Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and R&D teams to resolve quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on defect reduction, yield improvement, process optimization, and operational efficiency.
- Analyze process and quality data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor and control key quality parameters related to:
- Electrode: Mixing, coating, drying, calendaring, slitting, moisture, adhesion, and dimensional control.
- Assembly: Stacking/Winding, tab welding, electrolyte filling, sealing, and leak testing.
- Formation: Charging/discharging profiles, aging performance, IR, capacity, and cell grading.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth implementation of process and quality improvements.
- Train and support shop floor teams on quality awareness, defect prevention, process controls, and best manufacturing practices.
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of non-conformities, deviations, quality metrics, and improvement actions.
- Support customer audits, internal audits, and compliance activities related to quality management systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards applicable to Li-ion cell manufacturing.
Required Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in process quality or manufacturing quality within Li-ion battery, electronics, chemical, automotive, or high-tech manufacturing industries.
- Hands-on experience in Electrode, Assembly, or Formation processes in Li-ion cell manufacturing is highly preferred.
- Experience in process quality systems, statistical analysis, quality tools, and manufacturing improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical discipline.
- Additional certifications in Six Sigma, TQM, SPC, Quality Management Systems, or related quality methodologies are preferred.
Key Skills & Attributes:
- Strong understanding of Li-ion cell manufacturing processes across Electrode, Assembly, and Formation areas.
- Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies such as SPC, FMEA, 8D, CAPA, Fishbone Analysis, Pareto Analysis, and Process Audits.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Good understanding of process controls, quality systems, and manufacturing standards.
- Effective communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Strong attention to detail with a quality-focused mindset.
- Leadership and team collaboration capabilities.
