Location: Gurugram,On-site, production floor
Function: Manufacturing / Vehicle Assembly / Production Setup
Role OverviewWe are looking for a hands-on Process & Manufacturing Engineer who can take ownership of vehicle assembly and the setup of Pluto's assembly unit from the ground up.
This role is not just about supervising production. The person will be responsible for defining how the vehicle is assembled, how the floor is structured, how operators work, how quality is checked, and how the process improves over time.
The right person should be comfortable building scalable systems.
Key Responsibilities1. Assembly Process Setup- Define the complete vehicle assembly process from part receiving to final vehicle rollout.
- Create assembly stations, process flow, inventory management, work sequence, tools, fixtures, and manpower requirements.
- Develop clear work instructions for operators.
- Validate each station before it goes live on the production floor.
2. Production Floor & Assembly Unit Establishment- Help set up the assembly area, workstation layout, material movement, storage, and WIP flow.
- Define station-wise requirements for tooling, jigs, fixtures, safety, and ergonomics.
- Ensure the floor is ready for repeatable vehicle assembly, not just one-off builds.
3. Quality Control & Process Gates- Build quality checkpoints at every critical stage of assembly.
- Define inspection checklists for mechanical, electrical, electronics, and firmware-related assembly steps.
- Track defects, identify root causes, and close corrective actions.
- Ensure vehicles are not passed forward without meeting defined quality gates.
4. Stock Inventory, Assembly Kitting & Traceability- Define station-wise kits and part presentation.
- Track parts from inwarding to kitting, WIP, fitment, rejection, and rework.
- Maintain traceability for critical parts and assemblies.
- Coordinate with sourcing and stores to avoid line stoppages.
5. Engineering Change Implementation- Coordinate with engineering teams when design changes affect assembly.
- Update work instructions, tools, fixtures, kits, and process documents accordingly.
- Ensure no change is implemented on the floor without process readiness.
6. Production Planning & Problem Solving- Maintain short-term production readiness plans for upcoming vehicle builds.
- Identify risks related to parts, tooling, process gaps, and manpower.
- Resolve shop-floor issues quickly through hands-on investigation.
- Improve the process continuously based on defects, delays, and operator feedback.
Required Experience- 4–6 years of hands-on experience in automotive, EV, mechanical-electrical, machinery, or similar assembly environments.
- Experience in setting up or improving an assembly process.
- Strong understanding of mechanical assembly, wiring harness fitment, electrical/electronics integration, and basic firmware flashing or calibration processes.
- Familiarity with torque checks, crimping quality, connector routing, waterproofing practices, and end-of-line checks.
- Ability to create work instructions, inspection checklists, and basic process documentation.
- Comfortable spending most of the time on the shop floor.
What We Are Looking ForWe need someone who can
- Build the assembly process, not just follow & co-ordinate.
- Strong technical judgement who can assess process gaps & identify the right trade-offs between speed, quality, and feasibility.
- Think deeply about quality before defects reach the customer.
- Work closely with engineering, sourcing, stores, and operators.
- Bring structure to a fast-moving prototype-to-production environment.
- Take ownership of the vehicle assembly outcome end-to-end.
