Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Manage all stages of a project from initial concept through to completion, ensuring alignment with client specifications, budgets, and timelines.
  • Provide technical leadership in traffic signalling design, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and public agencies to understand project requirements, share updates, and resolve issues.
  • Act as a technical expert, contributing innovative engineering strategies to solve complex problems.
  • Guide and support team members in both technical and project management areas to ensure quality project delivery and professional growth.
  • Participate in client meetings and assist in tracking project progress on a day-to-day basis.
  • Handle internal communication, monitor project budgets, engage in recruitment, contribute to business development, and prepare fee proposals.
  • Promote a positive team culture and maintain a healthy working environment.

Candidate Specification

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Over 12 years of post-graduate experience in traffic signal design.
  • Member of a recognized professional institution and actively working toward chartership.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Hands-on experience in traffic signals engineering.
  • Familiarity with UK Traffic Signals standards and guidance.
  • Proficiency in traffic modelling software, particularly LinSig.
  • Experience working in team environments to deliver traffic signal projects.
  • Proficient in engineering software tools such as AutoCAD and KeySignals.
  • Ability to prepare traffic signal studies and technical reports.
  • Development of traffic signal timing plans and designs in accordance with local standards.
  • Experience with traffic signal controller specification and programming, including UTC/SCOOT and MOVA systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with 3D design software and familiarity with BIM and common data environments.

Desirable Skills:

  • In-depth experience with traffic signal controller programming and all signal modes.
  • Experience working with international teams.

Job Profile:

You will have a solid background in traffic signals engineering, with a track record of contributing to successful project delivery in terms of time, cost, and quality. Your role will involve coordinating the design process, and contributing to all stages of traffic signal engineering, including feasibility studies, preliminary, and detailed design. Proficiency in modelling software such as LinSig is expected, along with experience in specifying and programming microprocessor traffic signal controllers, including systems like UTC/SCOOT and MOVA.
