Position Overview

We are growing our Cloud Management team within Autodesk's Enterprise IT organization. This team designs, provisions, and operates enterprise multi-cloud platforms that enable secure, scalable, and compliant infrastructure for Autodesk's global engineering teams.

At the center of this effort is Infrastructure Software Automation Platform, Autodesk's cloud infrastructure automation system that provisions and manages cloud environments across AWS, Azure, and GCP. The platform enables self-service infrastructure, enforces governance and security controls, and supports critical workloads across Autodesk's product ecosystem.

As a Principal Software Development Engineer on the Infrastructure Automation Team, you will define and drive the technical direction of Autodesk's multi-cloud infrastructure automation platform. You will architect solutions that operate at global scale across AWS, Azure, and GCP, and enable hundreds of internal teams to securely consume cloud infrastructure.

This role combines hands-on technical leadership, architectural ownership, and cross-team influence. You will shape platform strategy while remaining deeply involved in design and implementation.

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Define and evolve the multi-cloud architecture of the Alfred Platform serving 100+ internal teams

  • Establish engineering standards for serverless, microservices, infrastructure automation, and observability

  • Drive architectural decisions for multi-account and multi-project cloud strategies

  • Lead design reviews and mentor engineers on system design, code quality, and cloud best practices

  • Own the long-term technical roadmap, scalability strategy, and modernization efforts

  • Drive system reliability, performance, and cost optimization across cloud providers

Technical Execution

  • Architect and build complex systems for cloud account provisioning, governance, and lifecycle management

  • Design large-scale cloud-native architectures using serverless, container, and managed services

  • Lead Terraform module architecture supporting AWS, Azure, and GCP environments

  • Design event-driven orchestration using cloud-native messaging and workflow services

  • Establish observability standards for logs, metrics, traces, and alerting at scale

  • Define and integrate AI-assisted observability and automation, including anomaly detection, predictive insights, and intelligent remediation workflows

  • Ensure AI-driven capabilities are secure, auditable, explainable, and aligned with compliance requirements

  • Lead technical debt reduction and platform modernization initiatives

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Security and Compliance teams on audits, governance, and regulatory readiness

  • Collaborate with SRE teams on incident response and operational excellence

  • Work with Product teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions

  • Coordinate with global engineering teams across regions

  • Engage with cloud provider partners on service adoption and best practices

Required Qualifications

Technical Leadership

  • 8+ years of software development experience, with 5+ years in senior or principal-level roles

  • Proven experience designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems

  • Strong architectural judgment with the ability to articulate trade-offs across cloud platforms

  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading cross-team technical initiatives

Technical Expertise

  • Deep experience with at least two major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Strong proficiency in Go and Python

  • Advanced experience with Terraform and complex multi-cloud module ecosystems

  • Expertise in microservices, serverless, and event-driven architectures

  • Strong understanding of cloud security, identity, encryption, and compliance frameworks

  • Deep experience with observability at scale (metrics, logs, traces, alerting)

  • Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts and failure modes

  • Experience designing, operating, or governing Kubernetes-based platforms (EKS, AKS, GKE)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing or integrating AI-assisted operational systems (AIOps)

  • Ability to evaluate when Kubernetes is appropriate versus serverless or managed services

  • Experience with cloud governance models and policy enforcement

  • Exposure to FinOps and multi-cloud cost optimization strategies

  • Cloud certifications across AWS, Azure, or GCP

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
