WSP India is currently seeking a Principal Engineer – Piping for Australia Mining Infrastructure Projects (Materials Handling Infrastructure). They shall be responsible for engineering design of Piping in compliance with WSP Engineering and Client Standards. Previous experience in an EPCM environment in the O & G, Power plant, Chemical process plant, Mining processing industry is an asset.

A Team player and willing to work collaboratively with a motivated and highly successful team in Australia. The position will be for Bangalore/Mumbai location.

Responsibilities

This role is for a Principal Engineer- Piping on mining projects.

  • Act as technical authority for piping discipline across mining projects
  • Lead development and governance of piping standards, specifications, and design philosophies
  • Ensure compliance with ASME (B31.3, B31.4, B31.8) and relevant Australian standards
  • Oversee and approve piping layouts, 3D models, isometrics, and material selections
  • Review and validate piping calculations (wall thickness, branch reinforcement, pressure design)
  • Provide expertise in slurry systems including hydraulic performance, erosion, and deposition risk
  • Support design of tailings, process water, and dewatering systems
  • Coordinate piping design with bulk materials handling systems (conveyors, car dumpers, transfer stations)
  • Oversee piping stress analysis and ensure integrity under thermal, dynamic, and operational loads
  • Define and review pipe support philosophy and critical line routing
  • Approve piping material classes, valve specifications, and specialty items
  • Lead technical input to RFQs, vendor evaluations, and bid assessments
  • Ensure alignment with project scope, schedule, budget, and execution strategy
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (process, mechanical, structural, E&I)
  • Ensure designs consider constructability, maintainability, and operability
  • Provide input to modularisation, brownfield tie-ins, and shutdown scopes
  • Identify and mitigate technical and operational risks in piping systems
  • Lead value engineering initiatives to optimise CAPEX and OPEX
  • Ensure compliance with HSE requirements and promote safe design principles
  • Mentor and guide piping engineers and designers
  • Review and approve key engineering deliverables
  • Drive continuous improvement and technical excellence within the discipline
  • The candidate must have a valid passport.
  • communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work as part of a team.
  • You will also be computer literate with a reasonable proficiency in MS office suite and Navisworks.

  • Contribute to knowledge sharing in internal and external forums.
  • Remain up to date with market and competitor knowledge.

Desired Skills

  • Strong preference will be given to candidates with Australian experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with minimum 10-14 year of experience in a consulting
  • firm in an EPCM environment in the O & G, Power, Mining processing industry is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team or on an individual basis.

Qualifications

  • 12-16 years of experience in piping engineering.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree & preferred master's degree in mechanical engineering. PG diploma or certificate in Piping engineering would be an asset.
  • Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to the detail.
  • Familiar with working in a LEAN environment.
  • Experience with projects in Australia, New Zealand would be an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in English.
  • P. ENG qualification would be an added advantage.
