Principal Engineer - Naval Architecture: Key Responsibilities -
- Organize and manage all aspects of the workload of discipline engineers and designers, within the parameters of a project schedule.
- Lead and own the process of preparation of design deliverables with due consideration for Applicable Codes & Standards.
- Interface with Leads of other departments to reflect the as-on-date input from other Departments as applicable.
- Capture all changes/modifications in the deliverables that have been intimated by Project, prior to release of deliverable.
- Ensure adherence to recognized engineering practices as applicable.
- Attend project review meetings/3D model review meetings as required.
- Lead all design review meetings.
- Monitor and review design changes.
- As instructed by the Discipline Managers, carry out internal Quality Audits.
- Ensure appropriate checking & review of all documents/drawings before release at any Revision status.
- Take ownership of deliverables produced & their quality.
- Provide technical support to engineers and designers.
- Monitor Budget Compliance of design deliverable production.
- Coordinate with other Engineering disciplines, client, vendors and Classification agencies.
- Maintain, control and monitor Quality Assurance System.
- Control of Quality of engineering documents with regard to Quality Assurance basis.
- Attend all QA Audits for the concerned project.
- Keep HOD informed on progress of project, with agreed periodicity.
- Manpower estimation, work planning/forecast and effective utilization of manpower, progress monitoring and adherence to scheduled completion of engineering documents.
- Identify training needs of team members
- Continuation of core responsibilities focused on technical execution, compliance, and support in oil and gas naval architecture projects.
- Conduct training and orientation for engineers and designers regarding various design activities in accordance with Department Training Plan.
- Assist Engineering Department Manager on department operations when required.
- Approve corrective actions for CAR (Corrective Action Request).
- Review/execute Naval Architectural calculations including stability, ballasting, towing, scantling design for rule compliance, weight control, etc., for offshore drilling rigs, ships, and barges.
- Provide technical guidance on NA designs of bulkhead and deck classifications for fire protection, watertight/weathertight requirements, operation manuals, etc.
- Ensure technical compliance to class and statutory regulations.
- Provide technical support on naval architectural aspects of load out/load in, float on/float off, inclining experiments of rigs and other vessels under construction or repair, and for docking of vessels.
- Review bid documents and inputs.
- Ensure compliance to HSES policies and procedures as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable information security policies & procedures.
Key skills & qualifications-
- Education: BSc/BTech Degree in Naval Architecture (MSc/MTech Degree an advantage).
- Experience: Minimum 10-15 years in offshore oil and gas facilities, drilling rigs with major Construction Yard/EPC contractor and/or consultant (15+ years preferred for Principal level).
- Regulatory Knowledge: Conversant with Classification Rules/Regulatory Requirements such as ABS, DNV, BV, SOLAS, IMO, Loadline, CAP 437, etc.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience in Naval Architectural software such as MOSES, GHS, AutoHydro, Aveva, etc.
- Design Expertise: Design experience in marine and offshore field floating offshore structures.
- Standards Knowledge: Working knowledge of international codes and standards.
- Technical Skills: Preparation of specifications, technical evaluation, vendor documentation review.
- Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated high-order interpersonal skills and ability to operate within a multinational environment.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with ability to interact across multiple disciplines.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to influence and motivate others with regard to continuous improvement.
- Project Experience: Experience in fabrication, construction, installation engineering of various structures.
- Specialized Skills: Experience in Load out and Float off is desirable.
