Role Overview
As a Principal Member of Technical Staff (PMTS) – Data Solutions, you will be a technical authority and architect driving the design, evolution, and execution of next-generation digital insurance platforms from data perspective. You will solve company-wide, ambiguous, high-impact problems, influence engineering direction across multiple teams, and ensure systems are scalable, secure, resilient, and regulation-ready while enabling rapid innovation.
You will work at the intersection of technology, product, risk, and compliance, shaping platforms that power real-time underwriting, claims automation, fraud detection, and personalized insurance experiences.
What You Will Work On
- Define and own end-to-end architecture for large-scale, cloud-native insurance platforms.
- Drive adoption of modern architectural paradigms:
- Event-driven & streaming architectures
- Microservices & service mesh
- Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
- Build new and exciting components in an ever-growing and evolving market technology to provide scale and efficiency.
- Make long-term technology bets aligned with business strategy and regulatory needs.
- Lead exploration and production adoption of emerging technologies, including Real-time data platforms (Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming)
- Build and maintain data pipelines for ingesting, validating, and harmonizing data from multiple sources.
- Design and implement backend data services, APIs, and microservices to support platform functionality.
- Develop backend components for data processing, transformation, and distribution layers.
- Design relational and dimensional data models to support enterprise-scale data management.
- Build and optimize backend data access layers and query optimization services.
- Architect data distribution mechanisms and backend APIs to support downstream consumption and analytics.
- Identify architectural gaps, data quality issues, and performance bottlenecks; recommend and implement solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship on data architecture and backend development best practices.
- Contribute to the evolution of Data Warehouse platform capabilities, backend services, and technical roadmap.
- Design systems capable of:
- Handling millions of policies and claims in real time
- Supporting multi-tenant, multi-region deployments
- Meeting strict latency, uptime, and disaster recovery SLAs
- Ensure zero-trust security, data privacy, and compliance with insurance regulations (IRDAI, GDPR, SOC2, ISO).
- Partner closely with Product, Actuarial, Risk, Legal, and Compliance teams.
- Translate complex business and regulatory requirements into elegant technical solutions.
- Act as a technical advisor to senior leadership and executive teams.
- Drive alignment across teams without formal authority.
- Raise the technical bar through mentorship of Lead and senior engineers.
Requirements
What we look for:
- Proven track record of building and shipping high-quality backend API components with a minimum of 12 years of experience in Application Development, with principal-level impact.
- Strong experience in data architecture, data warehousing, and enterprise data platform implementation
- Deep knowledge in selecting, configuring and integrating 3rd party SaaS or COTS solutions as well as coordinating the development of such solutions
- Technical skills include strong Hands-on development on Spring Boot, JPA
- Strong background in data-intensive systems and real-time processing.
- Deep experience with data ingestion patterns, ETL/ELT processes, and data pipeline orchestration
- Proficiency in data modelling (logical, physical, and dimensional) for analytical workloads
- Hands-on experience writing complex SQL and optimizing query performance.
- Experience with security-critical and compliance-heavy domains (fintech, insurance, banking).
- Ability to influence architecture across multiple teams and products.
- Strong SQL skills and experience and experience with relational and non-relational databases e.g. (Postgres/Oracle/Mongo).
- Broad experience in building interfaces between (cloud) solutions (Azure/AWS), API management and development.
- Detailed real-world experience with Scrum or similar agile methodologies
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML or GenAI in production is a plus.
- Experience with the Azure platform is a plus
