Position Summary
Join athenahealth as a Senior Product Manager on the Internal Developer Platform team in Bengaluru, India, working in a hybrid model. In this role, you will define and deliver tools and capabilities that improve developer experience, software quality, and software security across the software development lifecycle. You will partner with engineering, platform teams, and R&D stakeholders to evaluate opportunities, prioritize investments, and deliver measurable outcomes. This role reports to the Product Management Director.
About The Team
The Internal Developer Platform organization supports the R&D Experience charter by improving developer productivity and engineering effectiveness through tools and services. The team identifies, implements, and helps drive adoption of capabilities that improve software quality, developer experience, and delivery efficiency across R&D. The work combines product strategy, technical understanding, experimentation, and outcome measurement to ensure platform investments create meaningful impact. This role contributes to that mission by working closely with product, engineering, and R&D partners to understand needs, guide adoption, and continuously improve results.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Define product strategy and roadmap priorities for initiatives that improve developer productivity, software quality, and software security in an AI-enabled environment.
- Manage backlog and scope for cross-cutting platform initiatives, aligning priorities to business value, user needs, technical feasibility, and measurable impact.
- Partner with engineering management to coordinate delivery across multiple teams, including planning, dependencies, sequencing, and release coordination.
- Lead discovery, evaluation, and experimentation for AI coding assistants, AI agents, MCPs, and related capabilities, including how security controls are applied in those workflows.
- Engage R&D stakeholders to understand workflow challenges, capture requirements, and support adoption strategies that improve usage and outcomes.
- Define and monitor success metrics across adoption, usage, quality, productivity, and operational impact to guide iteration and investment.
- Translate developer experience needs into clear product requirements, user stories, and outcome-oriented delivery plans.
- Use AI tools to summarize feedback, compare options, and analyze product and usage data for platform decisions, while helping the team apply them in practical and responsible ways.
Additional Job Responsibilities
- Partner with InfoSec to evaluate vendor offerings, market trends, and emerging practices in product security.
- Support implementation of software security controls by working with technical teams across developer tools and AI-enabled workflows.
- Support rollout readiness through communications, enablement materials, stakeholder updates, and structured feedback loops.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align initiatives with platform strategy, governance, security, and operational standards.
- Identify opportunities to simplify developer workflows and reduce friction across the software delivery lifecycle while maintaining appropriate security controls.
- Facilitate discussions to clarify tradeoffs, resolve priority conflicts, and maintain focus on intended outcomes.
- Document product decisions, hypotheses, success criteria, and learnings from pilots and broader rollouts.
Expected Education & Experience
- 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in product management, platform product management, developer tools, enterprise software, or a related domain.
- Experience with AI-enabled product thinking, including AI coding assistants, AI agents, MCPs, AI skills, or AI-assisted software delivery workflows.
- Experience managing products or capabilities related to developer productivity, software quality, internal platforms, or DevTools.
- Experience with backlog management, scope management, prioritization, roadmap planning, and delivery coordination in partnership with engineering.
- Experience driving experimentation, adoption, and outcome measurement for tools and workflows.
- Understanding of developer experience product thinking and engineering user needs across the software development lifecycle.
- Ability to define metrics, interpret results, and use data to guide decisions, tradeoffs, and product iteration.
- Experience working with R&D stakeholders and cross-functional teams in Agile or pod-based delivery models.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
