The Principal Material Engineer will be responsible for selecting, specifying, and ensuring the quality of piping materials across exploration, production, refining, and transportation operations. The role ensures compliance with safety, performance, and regulatory standards and provides technical guidance to the engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare Piping Material Index (PMI) and Piping Material Classes for Process and Utilities.
- Prepare Valve datasheets and Piping Specialty item datasheets.
- Write technical and purchase specifications for bulk materials, valves, and specialty piping items.
- Perform design calculations such as pipe wall thickness under internal pressures, vacuum conditions, branch reinforcement pads, bends, and spectacle blinds (spade/spacer).
- Ensure compliance with international codes and standards.
- Prepare technical/material requisitions for piping bulks, valves, and specialty items.
- Evaluate technical bids and engage in discussions and clarifications with vendors.
- Review and approve vendor documents and drawings.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 12-18 years of relevant Onshore/Offshore experience.
- Hands-on experience with metallic piping (Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Duplex/Super Duplex, Low Alloy Steel) and non-metallic piping systems (GRE, GRP, FRP, HDPE).
- Expertise in material management tools.
- Experience with Shell DEP, Qatar Petroleum (QP), or other Middle East projects is an added advantage.
