Role overview:
Working as part of the Compute (Platform) Engineering team within the Infrastructure & Cloud Services organisation of Keyloop, we are responsible for the design, build and service ownership of robust, scalable, and secure IT infrastructure solutions across our on-premises data centre and public cloud environments
We are seeking an experienced engineer/architect to lead a core part of our infrastructure through generation of recommendations and thought leadership. It combines strategic architecture with hands-on technical leadership across our hybrid cloud services and technologies. This role ensures alignment with business objectives, compliance standards, and industry best practices while driving innovation and efficiency within Infrastructure Operations.
Key responsibilities:
- Architecture & Design
- Define and maintain enterprise grade compute infrastructure architecture (Operating Systems, Servers & Hypervisors, Backup/Data protection, Storage)
- Design hybrid solutions integrating on-premises Data Centre and public cloud platforms (mostly AWS)
- Create high-level and low-level designs, standards, and architectural blueprints
- Ensure scalability, high availability, security and performance across all platforms
Infrastructure Engineering Oversight
- Oversee core infrastructure domains. Act as a technical design leader and mentor to our infrastructure engineering SMEs:
- Operating systems and components (Windows, Linux, AIX, IBMi, SCCM, AD, RDS, certs & cert management, hardening, configuration, patching)
- Servers & virtualisation (VMware, Nutanix)
- Storage (Enterprise arrays, FC SAN fabrics, AWS S3)
- Backup & disaster recovery (AWS Backup, Rubrik, BRMS, data retention policies, legal requirements)
- Privileged Access Management (BeyondTrust, IAM, Entra ID)
- Ensure integration across environments and platforms
Security, Compliance & Risk Management
- Embed security-by-design principles into all architectures
- Ensure compliance with standards (e.g. ISO27001, GDPR, SOC frameworks)
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies across infrastructure layers
- Collaborate with security teams on governance and policies
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption
- Drive automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices
- Lead infrastructure simplification, modernisation and consolidation initiatives
- Develop technology roadmaps aligned with business priorities
Operational Excellence
- Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
- Own capacity planning, performance monitoring, and technical debt management
- Support operational teams with design handovers, escalation support, and continual improvements
Key skills/experience:
Services and Scalability
- Proven experience in large scale data centre infrastructure architecture (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) and cloud technologies (preferably AWS)
- Design, build and service ownership of the infrastructure and tools used within our global data centre & cloud locations. Provide thought leadership across the technology spectrum. Work across our technology SMEs to deliver enterprise grade infrastructure and solutions
- Owning capacity planning and technical debt, facilitating discussion and delivering meaningful improvements via KPIs
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills. Strategic thinking with a pragmatic, hands-on approach
- Ability to influence decisions and drive outcomes across teams. Be comfortable debating technologies and processes, with the ultimate goal of harmonising to a single set of strategies and technology stacks
- As well as being task driven, you have extensive experience of being accountable for project delivery. Working across multiple stakeholders to unblock initiatives and ensuring projects are delivered on time and to budget.
- Work closely with application teams, DevOps, and security teams to deliver integrated solutions. Influence decisions and strategy across the business through persuasion and being able to clearly articulate needs and reasoning of designs/alternatives to move towards a desired outcome.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption were beneficial
Skillsets & Experience- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform/Ansible), with familiarity of DevOps practices and deployment pipelines
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Drive automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency. Ensure that we are operationalising infrastructure, technologies and solutions so that that they can be properly onboard into, and supported by, our hosting/infrastructure operations teams
- Drive technology improvements and consolidations. Conducting technology, tooling and solution comparisons & POCs
- Generate technology roadmaps and drive team projects to complete on time
- Create and peer review design documentation & operational artifacts for our solutions and services
- Experience of CIS standards for Operating System images and infrastructure. Security is at our core
- Experience of infrastructure audits. Provide and maintain collateral & evidence generation to support ISO27001/SOC1/SOC2 audit processes
