As a Principal Enterprise Software Test Engineer within Medtronic's R&D Engineering function at the Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center, you will be a lead expert driving the quality and verification of our software products. You will take complete ownership of test automation solutions, design automation frameworks, and guide the implementation of test strategies. Operating across all phases of the software development process, you'll ensure timely delivery of high-quality software for medical devices in a fast-paced, collaborative, and global environment, ultimately helping champion healthcare access and equity.
A Day in the Life
You will drive software quality and testing excellence by:
- Taking complete ownership for preparing test automation solutions, designing automation frameworks, and leading the implementation of test strategy, test plans, and test execution for the product.
- Conducting and/or participating in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, code, and other engineering artifacts, ensuring timely delivery to meet program commitments.
- Guiding project test engineering decisions and direction.
- Taking high-level requirements and independently completing test development per defined processes.
- Designing and executing project test plans and strategies.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to strategize as per the roadmap.
- Helping the team unblock on complex technical issues.
- Designing and executing tests using automated test tools, as well as manual test development processes, for the verification of software requirements.
- Learning and understanding software standards for Medical devices, specifically IEC 62304.
- Supporting test infrastructure setup and test tool development, such as test tools, stubs, Hardware/Firmware simulators, and emulators.
- Establishing and maintaining traceability from software requirements to verification test design and implementation.
- Participating in the technical reviews of software requirements and peer verification test development.
- Recommending new tools, techniques, and methodologies for improving quality and productivity.
- Providing hands-on leadership, coaching, mentoring, and promoting software engineering best practices.
- Working collaboratively with internal and external partners.
- Managing deliverables independently.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- B.E./B.Tech. degree.
- 14+ years of software industry experience, primarily in Software Testing (Manual and Automation).
- 5+ years of experience in Software/Test framework Design & architecture.
- Proficiency with one or more of the following programming languages: Java, C#, JavaScript, Python.
- Experience in working in a mobile environment with both Android and iOS.
- Expertise in Design & development of Test Automation for both mobile and web applications.
- Expertise in developing automation using Appium and Selenium.
- 5+ years of experience in leading, mentoring, and coaching software test teams.
- Experience in preparing test strategy, test plans, and test execution of products.
- Experience of working with Hybrid and Native mobile applications.
- Experience with software version control tools.
- Hands-on experience with Test Management and Defect Management tools, preferably Microsoft Test Manager, Azure DevOps, and Power BI tools.
- Experience in both Agile and Waterfall software development methods.
- Ability to effectively communicate and operate within a cross-functional work environment (software verification and development engineers, system engineers, human factors engineers, and quality engineers).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong Stakeholder management skills.
