WSP India is currently seeking a
Principal Engineer – Process (
Mining & Minerals Processing) for Australia Mining Infrastructure Projects (Materials Handling Infrastructure). They shall be responsible for engineering design of Process with WSP Engineering and Client Standards. Previous experience in an EPCM environment in the O & G, Power plant, Chemical process plant, Mining processing industry is an asset.
A Team player and willing to work collaboratively with a motivated and highly successful team in Australia.
The position will be for Bangalore/Mumbai location.
Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this position is to act as the custodian of the process design basis for mining and minerals processing projects. The Senior Process Engineer – Mining & Minerals Processing is responsible for developing, maintaining and controlling key process engineering deliverables including Mass and Energy Balances, Process Design Criteria (PDC), Basis of Design (BoD), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) throughout all phases of project delivery.
The role applies advanced process engineering and metallurgical processing knowledge across studies, project execution and client engagements, ensuring technically sound, safe and practical engineering solutions are delivered within agreed schedules, budgets and quality standards.
The role is focused on mineral processing and metallurgical processing facilities supporting mining projects including iron ore, coal preparation, mineral sands, base metals, precious metals, battery minerals and associated mining infrastructure.
The Senior Process Engineer is expected to work to the highest professional and ethical standards while contributing to technical excellence, continuous improvement and the development of process engineering capability within WSP.
Key Accountabilities
Process Design Basis Ownership
Act as the custodian and technical owner of the process design basis for assigned projects and studies.
Own and maintain the integrity of project Mass and Energy Balances throughout the project lifecycle.
Develop, maintain and control Process Design Criteria (PDC), Basis of Design (BoD) and associated process design assumptions.
Develop, review and maintain process flowsheets and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs).
Develop, review and maintain Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
Ensure consistency and alignment between Mass and Energy Balances, Design Criteria, Basis of Design documents, process flowsheets, PFDs, P&IDs and multidisciplinary design deliverables.
Manage process design changes through project change management processes.
Ensure process engineering deliverables remain current and accurately reflect project requirements throughout all phases of design and project execution.
Provide technical assurance and review of process engineering deliverables prepared by other team members.
Serve as the primary process engineering focal point for maintaining the integrity of the process design basis.

Select and specify process equipment suitable for project requirements.
Apply and maintain a thorough understanding of WSP standard process calculations and engineering methodologies.
Ensure all process engineering deliverables comply with statutory requirements, relevant standards, client requirements and company procedures.
Drive Safety in Design principles throughout project delivery.
Review design deliverables within designated areas of technical expertise.
Studies and Metallurgical Testwork
Manage process engineering components of scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility and detailed design studies.
Develop process design criteria and technical documentation to support project decision-making.
Develop, manage and coordinate metallurgical testwork programmes.
Interpret metallurgical testwork results and translate outcomes into process design criteria, process flowsheets and engineering deliverables.
Identify opportunities to optimise flowsheets, operating strategies and project outcomes.
Support process hazard identification, operability and risk assessment activities.
Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the Process Engineering Team.
Client and Business Development
Develop and maintain positive client relationships through professional and productive delivery of work.
Manage interactions with clients on assigned studies and projects.
Assist business development activities by providing process engineering input into proposals, studies and bids.
Support preparation of technical scopes, engineering execution strategies and capital cost estimates.
Present technical information and project outcomes to clients and internal stakeholders.
Continually seek opportunities to improve client satisfaction through understanding and responding to client needs.
Project Delivery and Commercial Performance
Assume responsibility for managing process engineering scopes on assigned studies and projects.
Ensure agreed schedules, budgets and quality objectives are achieved.
Monitor scope, progress, cost and resource requirements.
Assist Project Managers and Lead Engineers with project controls, change management and risk management activities.
Coordinate effectively with other disciplines to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
Support project planning, forecasting and resource allocation activities.
Team Development and Knowledge Sharing
Mentor, coach and supervise junior process engineers, graduates and designers.
Share technical knowledge and lessons learned across the Process Engineering Team.
Contribute positively to team morale and foster a collaborative working environment.
Actively support the development of process engineering capability within WSP.
Engage in continuous learning and professional development.
Promote engineering best practice within projects, the wider business and the broader industry.

Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.

Qualifications
Typical Experience / Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering or equivalent discipline.
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline desirable.
- Minimum 8–12 years experience in mineral processing and metallurgical process engineering for mining projects.
- Demonstrated experience in iron ore, coal preparation, mineral sands, base metals, precious metals, battery minerals or similar mineral processing operations.
- Demonstrated experience developing, managing and interpreting metallurgical test work programmes and translating outcomes into process design recommendations and engineering deliverables.
- Experience across scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility and detailed design project phases.
- Experience within EPCM, consulting or owner's team environments supporting mining and mineral processing projects.
- Experience working on Australian mining projects is highly desirable.
- Registered or actively working towards professional engineering registration or chartership is desirable.
- Exposure to metallurgical modelling and process simulation software such as METSIM, JKSimMet, HSC, Limn, USIM PAC or equivalent would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
- 13-16 years of experience in process engineering.
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree & preferred master's degree in mechanical engineering. PG diploma or certificate in Piping engineering would be an asset.
- Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to the detail.
- Familiar with working in a LEAN environment.
- Experience with projects in Australia, New Zealand would be an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in English.
- C. Eng, P. Eng qualification would be an added advantage.
