LevelUp is our flagship B2C subscription product — a guided, AI-powered platform that brings structure, visibility, and strategy to high-skill immigration petition preparation. It helps applicants self-assess their eligibility, organise evidence, identify gaps, and build a compelling petition narrative. Under the hood, LevelUp is powered by an internal intelligence engine using RAG, LLMs, and proprietary data to analyse profiles and surface actionable insights.
Role Overview
We are building a fast-moving B2C subscription product in the immigration space, along with an internal intelligence engine leveraging AI (RAG systems, LLMs, and proprietary data). We're looking for a hands-on Principal/Staff Engineer (10+ years experience) who can ship features, own systems end-to-end, and drive technical direction through execution. This is not a management role, we need someone who leads by building, mentors through collaboration, and shapes architecture through hands-on contribution.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and build core product features end-to-end (backend → AI integration → production)
- Design and evolve system architecture across the product platform and AI/ML systems
- Work closely with product, UX, and dev team to ship fast and iterate
- Improve performance, reliability, and scalability of the platform
- Define and enforce engineering best practices
- Debug complex production issues across services and layers
- Mentor engineers through hands-on collaboration
- Drive technical strategy and roadmap for the engineering team
- Use AI tools (Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) to accelerate development and problem-solving
What We're Building
- B2C subscription product serving clients in the immigration domain
- Internal intelligence engine using RAG, LLM integrations, and structured + unstructured data pipelines
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of experience in backend or full stack engineering
- Strong fundamentals in system design, distributed systems, and API architecture
- Experience building and scaling consumer-facing or subscription-based products
- Hands-on experience with modern backend technologies (Python, Node.js, or similar)
- Solid understanding of databases (SQL and NoSQL), caching, and data modelling
- Experience working with or integrating AI/ML systems into production products
- Track record of technical leadership without relying on a management title
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI/LLM integrations or RAG-based systems
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and infrastructure as code
- Familiarity with ML pipelines and data engineering
- Experience mentoring or leading small engineering teams
- Prior experience in a startup or high-growth environment
