Job Description

About the Company / Team

Our organization delivers enterprise-scale technology platforms that power mission-critical business operations across industries. We focus on building secure, scalable, and cloud-forward data platforms that enable reliability, performance, and innovation for our customers.

The Database & Data Platform Architecture team sits at the intersection of product engineering, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise architecture. The team defines standardized database platforms, DBaaS offerings, and migration frameworks across on-premises and multi-cloud environments (OCI, AWS, Azure, GCP). Our mission is to transform deep database expertise into repeatable, productized solutions that accelerate adoption, reduce risk, and deliver measurable business value.

Job Summary

The Principal Database Product Architect is a senior technical leadership role responsible for owning the end-to-end architecture, strategy, and roadmap for Oracle-based and multi-cloud database products and services.

This role sits clearly above a Senior DBA, shifting focus from operational execution to platform architecture, product design, and cross-cloud patterns. Leveraging deep Oracle Core DBA expertise (10g through 23ai) and large-scale migration experience, the architect defines standardized architectures, reusable blueprints, and DBaaS platforms that support enterprise and mission-critical workloads.

The role partners closely with product management, cloud and application architects, build teams, and operations to ensure database platforms are scalable, secure, resilient, and differentiated.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the technical architecture and roadmap for Oracle and multi-cloud database products across on-premises, OCI, AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Translate business and customer requirements into product-level architectures, reference designs, and standardized blueprints.
  • Define and govern migration and modernization frameworks using GoldenGate, Data Guard, RMAN, ASM, ZDM, and snapshot standby to enable minimal or zero downtime.
  • Design high-availability, disaster recovery, and multi-region architectures for mission-critical workloads.
  • Establish platform standards for performance engineering, capacity planning, observability, backup/DR, and security.
  • Architect cloud-native database solutions, including network segregation, storage (OCI FSS, Storage Gateway), security, automation, and integration patterns.
  • Act as architectural design authority, conducting design reviews, approving solutions, and maintaining architectural decision records (ADRs).
  • Mentor senior DBAs and architects while supporting strategic customer and presales engagements with clear, value-driven solution architectures.

Qualifications & Skills

Mandatory

  • 1215+ years of experience in Oracle database engineering/administration in large enterprise environments.
  • Deep expertise in Oracle 10g/11g/12c/19c/23ai, including internals, HA, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience designing and executing large-scale migrations using GoldenGate, Data Guard, RMAN, ASM, ZDM, and snapshot standby.
  • Proven experience owning or influencing database architecture, platforms, or product-level designs (beyond day-to-day DBA operations).
  • Experience architecting database solutions on OCI and at least one additional hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Strong understanding of enterprise security, compliance, capacity planning, and SLA-driven design.
  • Oracle Database Administrator certification (12c or later) mandatory.

Good-to-Have

  • OCI Architect Associate and/or OCI Operations certification.
  • AWS Solutions Architect Associate or equivalent cloud certification.
  • Experience with DBaaS platforms, managed services, or catalog-based offerings.
  • Exposure to Fusion Applications databases and shared infrastructure designs.
  • Experience with additional RDBMS platforms (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Azure SQL).
  • Presales experience, including architecture workshops, RFP/RFI responses, and executive presentations.

Self-Assessment Questions

Candidates are encouraged to reflect on the following to assess their fit for the role:

  • Have I moved beyond operational DBA responsibilities to own or define database architectures, standards, or platforms used by multiple teams or customers
  • Do I have hands-on experience leading large-scale Oracle migrations or modernization programs with minimal or zero downtime
  • Have I designed and governed high-availability and disaster recovery architectures for mission-critical enterprise workloads
  • Am I comfortable making architecture trade-off decisions (cost, risk, performance, scalability) and influencing stakeholders across product, cloud, and operations teams
  • Do I have real-world experience architecting databases on OCI and at least one other hyperscaler, including security, networking, and automation considerations

Why join us

  • Lead the architecture of nextgeneration database products and services across OCI and major public clouds.
  • Influence strategy and design in a collaborative, highimpact global team working on missioncritical enterprise workloads.
  • Access continuous learning, advanced certifications, and clear growth paths into distinguished architect or product/engineering leadership roles.
  • Work handson with the latest Oracle and cloud capabilities, shaping reusable blueprints used across multiple customers and regions.
