About the Role

We are hiring a Principal Banking Domain Consultant to join our BFSI consulting practice. In this client-facing role, you will be a trusted advisor to banks, translating business strategy into modernization roadmaps across retail, digital and corporate banking. You will shaping GenAI empowered application and data transformation programs combined with deep banking expertise. You will partner with delivery, pre-sales and technology leaders to bring these solutions to life.

This is a senior individual-contributor role with significant influence: you will own domain thought leadership, anchor large deals, guide solution design, and mentor consultants across multiple engagements.

Key Responsibilities

Client Advisory & Domain Consulting

  • Trusted advisor: Act as a senior domain expert for banking clients across retail, digital channels, payments, lending, trade finance, cash management and treasury.
  • Transformation roadmaps: Conduct current-state assessments, define target operating models and build multi-year modernization roadmaps across business, process, data and technology.
  • Business case ownership: Quantify benefits, build TCO/ROI models and secure buy-in from CXO stakeholders (CIO, COO, Head of Retail/Corporate Banking, CDO).
  • Regulatory & risk context: Ensure solutions are aligned to regulatory expectations and emerging risk themes.

Solution Design & Delivery Oversight

  • Solution architecture partnership: Work with enterprise and solution architects to build new or modernise existing banking applications applications and data platforms to use AI capabilities.
  • Data, AI & analytics: Define data strategy, data-platform blueprints (lakehouse, data mesh), and high-value AI/GenAI use cases — e.g., credit decisioning, fraud & AML, KYC automation, customer 360, relationship-manager copilots, contact-center assist.
  • Delivery governance: Provide domain assurance across discovery, design and delivery phases.

Pre-sales & Practice Growth

  • Deal anchoring: Lead domain storyline, solutioning and orals for large BFSI pursuits; respond to RFIs/RFPs with compelling, differentiated propositions.
  • Offerings & assets: Co-create reusable accelerators, reference architectures, point-of-view papers and demos across retail and corporate banking.
  • Partnership ecosystem: Engage with product partners and hyperscalers to build joint solutions.

Talent & Capability Building

  • Mentorship: Coach and develop a pipeline of banking consultants and solution leads.
  • Knowledge management: Build domain academies, playbooks and case studies that institutionalize lessons learned from engagements.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 12–18 years of overall experience with at least 8 years in banking domain consulting, preferably within a global IT services, Big 4 or management consulting firm serving banks.
  • Proven delivery of transformation programs with two or more areas including: core banking modernization, digital channels, payments, lending/origination, trade finance, cash management, treasury, or risk & compliance.
  • Strong exposure to cloud modernization — migration, re-platforming, microservices, API management, event streaming, DevSecOps — on AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Hands-on familiarity with data and AI in banking: data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery), MLOps, and responsible use of GenAI/LLMs for banking workflows.
  • Solid understanding of banking regulations and frameworks/
  • Demonstrated pre-sales leadership/
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Economics or related field; MBA or CFA/FRM strongly preferred.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience working directly within a Tier-1 or Tier-2 bank in a business, technology or transformation role.
  • Experience designing and scaling AI/GenAI solutions with production-grade governance (model risk, explainability, bias, data privacy).
