Job Description

At MiniMed, you can begin a lifelong career of exploration and innovation, while helping make a difference in the lives of people living with diabetes around the globe. You'll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation for a more connected, compassionate world.

About The Role

The Cloud Engineer designs, builds, and operates core cloud platform capabilities with a primary focus on AWS, while supporting Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) where required. This role is responsible for delivering standardized, automated, and reusable cloud foundations—such as account provisioning, identity integration, networking baselines, and deployment pipelines—that enable application teams to move quickly without compromising security, governance, or reliability.

The Cloud Engineer works closely with Cloud Engineering, Architecture, Security, and Operations to translate architectural standards into durable platform services. The emphasis is on automation-first delivery, infrastructure-as-code, and building platforms that scale through consistency rather than manual effort.

Principal Cloud Engineer

Cloud Engineering & Delivery

  • Design, engineer, and operate foundational cloud services primarily on AWS, with support for Azure and GCP as part of a multi-cloud strategy.
  • Build and maintain standardized platform components including account provisioning, identity and access integration, networking foundations, and shared services.
  • Translate architectural standards and guardrails into reusable, production-grade platform implementations.

Infrastructure as Code & Automation

  • Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to ensure repeatable, auditable, and version-controlled deployments.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and GitHub Actions to support platform automation and safe change delivery.
  • Reduce manual effort and operational toil through automation and self-service patterns.

Observability & Reliability

  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting standards for platform services using native cloud tooling and approved third-party observability platforms.
  • Partner with SRE and Operations teams to improve reliability, resilience, and recovery of platform components.
  • Participate in incident response and post-incident reviews for platform-related services, driving corrective and preventative improvements.

Security, Governance & Compliance Enablement

  • Partner with Architecture, Security, and Governance teams to enforce identity, access, tagging, and compliance guardrails across cloud environments.
  • Ensure platform services are secure-by-default, auditable, and aligned with regulatory and enterprise standards.
  • Support policy-as-code and guardrail automation where applicable.

Documentation & Enablement

  • Contribute to platform blueprints, reference architectures, and technical documentation.
  • Publish clear guidance and patterns that enable application teams to consume platform services consistently.
  • Share knowledge and best practices across the engineering organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering, Cloud Engineering, or DevOps roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS; exposure to Azure and/or GCP strongly preferred.
  • Proven proficiency with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tooling.
  • Solid understanding of core cloud services including IAM, networking, compute, storage, and monitoring.
  • Experience with container platforms and orchestration (e.g., ECS, EKS, AKS, or GKE).
  • Ability to work effectively in an Agile environment and collaborate across engineering, security, and operations teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud governance constructs such as AWS Organizations and Control Tower, Azure management groups and policies, or GCP projects and folders.
  • Exposure to FinOps practices, cost optimization techniques, or automated remediation tooling.
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional), Azure Solutions Architect, or Google Professional Cloud Engineer.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and platform standards.

What Success Looks Like

  • Platform services are reliable, repeatable, and consumed broadly by application teams.
  • Cloud environments launch with consistent security, networking, and governance baselines.
  • Manual effort decreases as automation and self-service increase.
  • Platform standards are implemented in code, not enforced through meetings.
  • Application teams can move faster because the platform just works.
