Job Description

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

Having a NMC recordable Lecturer/Practice Educator/Teacher qualification or working towards a higher degree would be desirable.

Practice education and the PEF/CHEF service is primarily about making positive impacts on the experiences and outcomes of patients and those who access health and care services in Scotland. The role of the PEF/CHEF is focused on a whole systems approach to creating an improved learning environment and enhancing the quality of the practice learning experience. You will contribute to enhancing the quality of the practice learning environment by providing learning support, educational input and development activities for the current and future nursing and midwifery workforce. You will also facilitate practice education developments (practice learning) that support nurses and midwives to make the necessary changes in their practice, as required by the profession, to deliver safe, effective and person-centred practice. This post will work in partnership with practice and education colleagues supporting and facilitating shared learning and collaborative working across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Care Home practice learning environments and other contemporary health and care environments.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Corporate Nursing and Midwifery Practice Education team and work within the integrated practice education facilitator (PEF) and care home education facilitator (CHEF) service across the Health Board area, based at Gartnavel Royal Hospital
  • The shift pattern for this post is between Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of an operational plan for the provision of practice education across NHSGGC
  • Explore strategies for maximising the number of students that can be supported within practice learning environments, and identifying new opportunities for practice learning experiences
  • Contribute to the identification, selection, audit and evaluation of practice learning environments available within NHSGGC
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and evaluation of the post and the practice education facilitator service as a whole
  • Provide a leadership role model to nursing and midwifery staff in relation to professional issues in nursing and midwifery and demonstrate expert knowledge in own area of practice
  • Contribute to the development of communication networks and close working relationships with managers, mentors, practice placement areas, Higher and Further Education Institutions and NHS Education for Scotland
  • Contribute to the development, organisation, co-ordination, and implementation of the Practice Education Facilitation service within NHSGGC and care homes within the Glasgow and Clyde boundaries
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the provision of practice education support
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and evaluation of the Practice Education Facilitator / Care Home Education Facilitator service as a whole
  • Provide a leadership role model to nursing staff in relation to professional issues in nursing and demonstrate expert knowledge in own area of practice
  • Contribute to the development of communication networks and close working relationships with managers, mentors, practice learning environments, Higher (HEI) and Further (FEI)Education Institutions and NHS Education for Scotland

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Registered Nurse level 1 NMC registration
  • Educated to minimum degree level or equivalent
  • Knowledge and understanding of supervision and assessment of pre and postregistration student nurses
  • Knowledge and understanding of current policies and practices relating to nursing and education issues
  • Knowledge and understanding of preregistration nursing/midwifery programmes
  • Knowledge of the Flying Start Programme for newly qualified staff
  • Evidence of active and ongoing CPD
  • Knowledge of rights, valuesbased practice and legislation frameworks
  • Evidence of using digital technology, information systems, email, and basic applications
  • Ability to evidence a range of skills and behaviours in career history, including:
    • Organisation and applied leadership skills
    • Selfdirecting and selfmotivating
    • Enhanced written and verbal communication skills (negotiation, influencing, persuading, facilitating, conflict resolution)
    • Decisionmaking skills
  • Organisation and applied leadership skills (also listed above as essential skill area)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including negotiation, influencing and persuading, facilitating, conflict resolution
  • An ability to form positive working relationships with others
  • Be able to function in demanding and pressured environments
  • Excellent level of use of digital technology, information systems and email
  • Be able to demonstrate evidence of own Continuing Professional Development

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
