Role: Power Systems Engineer
Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India (On-site)
Employment type: Full-time
Industry: Space Technology
About Catalyx Space:
We're building AWS for space—providing in-space experiments and tech demos across LEO, deep space, and lunar orbit. Our offerings include unmanned labs, testbeds for rideshare and dedicated missions, and re-entry capsules for payload return. We simplify access with end-to-end solutions, no minimum mass limits, zero integration fees, and fast deployment (6 months), serving biopharma, semiconductors, materials science, defense, and more.
Role:
Own the spacecraft Electrical Power System (EPS) end-to-end—from power budgets and architecture through build, test, integration, and on-orbit support.
What you'll do:
- Define satellite power budgets from mission profile, subsystems, and orbit.
- Architect EPS (solar array conditioning, BMS, regulated/unregulated buses).
- Create schematics/PCBs; select converters, regulators, and PDU components.
- Analyze efficiency, thermal performance, redundancy, and fault-tolerance.
- Develop/validate MPPT and battery charge/discharge algorithms.
- Perform worst-case/derating studies and radiation-tolerance assessments.
- Lead FMECA and reliability risk mitigation.
- Source/evaluate space-qualified or Hi-Rel parts.
- Integrate and test EPS with OBC, payloads, ADCS, and comms.
- Maintain documentation for design, analysis, test, and integration.
- Support in-orbit ops (battery health, array performance, bus stability).
- Collaborate with systems engineering to optimize reliability, mass, and cost.
Minimum qualifications:
- B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in EE/ECE/Power (or equivalent experience).
- Typically 2–6 years in spacecraft EPS or power-electronics hardware.
- Strong in DC-DC topologies, switching regulators, and BMS.
- Hands-on with KiCad/Altium/OrCAD; LTspice/PLECS (or similar).
- Knowledge of space-grade components, derating standards, and radiation effects.
- MATLAB/Python proficiency for power-budget modeling.
- Familiar with solar cells, Li-ion batteries, and power conditioning.
- Exposure to TVAC, EMI/EMC, and vibration testing.
- FMECA/reliability experience and strong documentation skills.
Nice to have:
- Spacecraft operations / on-orbit power management experience.
- Familiarity with ECSS/NASA power standards.
- Fault-tolerant/redundant architectures.
- Prior CubeSat/smallsat EPS development.
Compensation & benefits:
- Competitive salary (details will be shared with shortlisted candidates),
- health insurance
- Provident fund.
