Job Description

KEY JOB DETAILS:

Role: Power System Engineer (EPS)

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Gurugram, India

Educational Qualification: BE/BTech in Electrical Engineer, Electronics Engineer

Work Experience: 6-8+ years of relevant work experience

Role Description:

Design and develop spacecraft Electrical Power Systems (EPS), including power generation, storage, regulation, and distribution for reliable mission operations. Collaborate with subsystem teams to ensure power budget compliance, efficiency, and fault tolerance. Support integration, testing, and in-orbit performance monitoring across the mission lifecycle.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Design and develop spacecraft Electrical Power Systems (EPS), including power generation (solar arrays), storage (batteries), regulation, and distribution
  • Define EPS architecture, including power conditioning, conversion, and distribution topologies
  • Perform detailed power budget analysis across mission phases (eclipse, peak load, contingency scenarios)
  • Design and analyze power electronics (DC-DC converters, battery charge/discharge systems, protection circuits)
  • Select and qualify components for space applications, including radiation-tolerant devices and battery technologies
  • Perform worst-case analysis, derating analysis, and reliability assessments for EPS components
  • Develop and validate battery management systems (BMS) and energy storage solutions
  • Conduct thermal analysis of EPS components in coordination with thermal/mechanical teams
  • Perform simulations and modeling using tools such as MATLAB / Simulink and PSIM or equivalent
  • Work with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer) for power electronics layout and integration
  • Define and manage EPS budgets (power, efficiency, thermal margins, mass)
  • Collaborate with subsystem teams (AOCS, RF, payload, onboard computer) to ensure power compatibility
  • Support integration of EPS with spacecraft systems and validate interfaces
  • Develop test plans and procedures for EPS verification, validation, and qualification
  • Perform electrical testing, load testing, and fault condition analysis
  • Support environmental testing (thermal vacuum, vibration, EMI/EMC) and analyze EPS performance
  • Troubleshoot EPS-related issues and perform root cause analysis
  • Maintain detailed technical documentation, including design reports, analysis reports, and test reports
  • Participate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) and ensure compliance with engineering standards
  • Monitor in-orbit EPS performance and support anomaly resolution

Desirable Skills & Certifications:

  • Strong expertise in power electronics design (DC-DC converters, battery management systems, power distribution units)
  • Proficiency in simulation and analysis tools such as MATLAB / Simulink and PSIM
  • Experience with PCB design and layout for power systems using Altium Designer or equivalent tools
  • In-depth understanding of spacecraft EPS architecture, power budgeting, and energy management across mission phases
  • Knowledge of space-grade components, derating, radiation effects, and reliability engineering practices
  • Familiarity with space standards and guidelines (ECSS, NASA, ISRO) for EPS design and qualification
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills for power system performance and anomaly resolution
  • Relevant certifications or training in power electronics, embedded systems, or systems engineering.

Personal Attributes

  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Comfortable working in cross-functional, engineering-focused teams.
  • Curious and eager to stay updated with new technologies and component trends.
