Job Description: Power Electronics Product Manager
Position Summary
The Power Electronics Product Manager is responsible for defining, developing, and driving the roadmap for power-electronics-based products such as AC-DC converters, DC-DC converters, EV chargers, inverters, and energy storage systems. The role involves deep technical understanding, market analysis, and coordination across R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, marketing, and sales to ensure successful product launches and lifecycle management.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Define product vision, roadmap, and value proposition for power-electronics products.
- Identify technology trends
- Conduct market sizing, competitive benchmarking, and application analysis.
- Prioritize product requirements based on customer needs, cost targets, and ROI.
Product Development & Engineering Interface
- Convert customer requirements into Product Requirement Documents (PRD).
- Work closely with R&D teams (hardware, firmware, mechanical, testing) to guide design decisions.
- Drive feature prioritization and ensure alignment with timelines.
- Review electrical design concepts (topologies, switching methods, thermal design).
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (IEC, UL, BIS, AIS, ISO).
Product Launch
- Plan and execute go-to-market strategy.
- Prepare technical datasheets, product manuals, and certification documentation.
- Conduct internal training for sales, service, and channel partners.
- Drive pilot trials, field validation, and customer feedback loops.
Product Lifecycle Management
- Monitor product performance, cost, quality, and reliability.
- Coordinate cost-down initiatives with SCM and Engineering.
- Manage component EOL (End of Life) transitions.
- Drive continuous improvement and next-gen platform development.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with supply chain and procurement to ensure component availability
- Align with operations for manufacturability, testing, and yield improvements.
- Support marketing with technical content, brochures, and application notes.
- Support sales in key customer visits and RFQ responses.
Customer & Market Interaction
- Collect VOC (Voice of Customer) and translate into technical features.
- Work with OEMs/Integrators for customisations.
- Identify application-specific opportunities (solar, EV, ESS, industrial, telecom, rail, defence).
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of power electronics topologies
- Knowledge of IGBT, SiC/GaN device selection, magnetics design, thermal design.
- Familiarity with digital control platforms (DSPs, microcontrollers, FPGA basics).
- Understanding of EMI/EMC requirements and testing.
- Experience with converter/inverter hardware lifecycle.
Business & Product Skills
- Experience in building product roadmaps and managing product lifecycles.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes.
- Strong analytical skills for pricing, costing, and market studies.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication.
Qualifications
- B.Tech / M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field.
- 512 years of experience in R&D, Applications Engineering, or Product Management in a power-electronics domain, preferably from relevant industries.
Preferred Experience
- Should have handled Power Electronics Products like EV Charger, Central/String Inverter, AC-DC/DC-DC converters, Drives.
- Familiarity with Product certification (IEC/UL) & Testing
- Exposure High Power System 50 KW to 5 MW
- Knowledge of PLM tools and project management tools.
