Job Description

About Us

Join a team that is redefining the accessibility of space. Azista space is a transformative force in the global aerospace sector, uniquely positioned at the intersection of indigenous innovation and industrial scalability. Operating India's first private-sector satellite mass-production facility in Ahmedabad, we have bridged the gap between complex engineering and high-volume manufacturing.

As a vertically integrated leader, we provide end-to-end solutions from the precision design of satellite buses and advanced payloads to mission management and communication systems. We don't just build hardware, we are democratizing the final frontier by providing global clientele with the cost-effective, high-performance technology needed to power the next generation of orbital missions. At Azista, you won't just be starting a job, you'll be fuelling the future of space exploration.

About the Role:

As a Power Electronics Design Engineer, you will own end-to-end flight hardware development—taking mission-critical power systems from architectural concept through space qualification.

In this role, you will architect, build, and qualify flight-ready Electrical Power Systems (EPS), high-efficiency DC-DC converters, and motor drives that power next-generation orbital missions. You'll work cross-functionally with mechanical, thermal, and systems teams to deploy robust, radiation-tolerant hardware designed for extreme space environments. If you thrive on technical ownership, high-reliability engineering, and driving space tech innovation with wide-bandgap semiconductors (GaN/SiC), this role is built for you.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Power Electronics & EPS Architecture

  • Architect space-grade Electrical Power Systems (EPS), including solar array conditioning interfaces, Battery Management Systems (BMS), and fault-tolerant power distribution units (PDU).
  • Design and develop high-efficiency, high-power-density multi-topology DC-DC converters (buck, boost, LLC, flyback) and motor drive electronics for spacecraft mechanisms.
  • Integrate spacecraft power subsystems using industry-standard communication protocols (CAN, SpaceWire, MIL-STD-1553B, SPI, I2C, RS422/RS485).

Simulation, Modeling & Optimization

  • Simulate and model complex power circuits using LTSpice, PSpice, and MATLAB/Simulink to optimize efficiency, transient performance, and loop stability.
  • Apply strict Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Reliability (DFR) practices within strict mass, power, and thermal budgets.

Hardware Bring-Up, Testing & Qualification

  • Lead schematic design, multi-layer PCB layout reviews, and hands-on hardware bring-up in laboratory environments.
  • Execute rigorous environmental qualification testing, including Thermal Vacuum (TVAC), vibration, shock, and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS).

Reliability, Compliance & Leadership

  • Perform Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Worst-Case Analysis (WCA), and component stress derating per space reliability standards.
  • Mitigate EMI/EMC compliance issues and select radiation-hardened / space-grade components.
  • Mentor junior design engineers, establish best-in-class hardware documentation, and drive the adoption of emerging power technologies (GaN/SiC architectures).

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree (B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech) in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electronics Engineering, or a related domain.
  • Experience: 2+ years of hands-on power electronics hardware design experience in Aerospace, Defence Electronics, Space Systems, or High-Reliability Industrial Systems.
  • Power Electronics Hardware: Demonstrated expertise in switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), multi-topology DC-DC converters, GaN/Si MOSFETs, gate drivers, and analog/digital feedback loops.
  • Design & Simulation Tools: Proficiency in LTSpice, PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, and EDA software (Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or KiCad).
  • Reliability & Standards: Strong grasp of EMI/EMC design practices, thermal management, component derating, and FMECA/WCA.
  • Soft Skills: High-reliability engineering mindset, strong system-level problem-solving, collaborative ownership, and clear technical communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional):

  • Space Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with ECSS or NASA standards for space-grade electronics qualification, radiation-tolerant component selection, and derating.
  • Digital & Embedded Systems: Exposure to Microcontrollers (MCU), DSPs, FPGAs, or digital power control techniques.
  • Advanced Avionics: Experience designing payload power systems or satellite bus subsystems for low Earth orbit (LEO) missions.
