About the Team and the Role:

The Power Electronics team at Ather is responsible for the design and development of the core electrical and electronic hardware subsystems that literally adds the power to our products. They are responsible for the design and implementation of the motor drive, on-board and off-board chargers including our public charging infrastructures, power conversion units etc. It ensures Ather's superior product positioning through cutting-edge technology , competitor benchmarking and platform reuse while adhering to strict QS standards and corporate values.

This role is for a Power Electronic Design Engineer who will work on analysis and design of power electronic circuits focusing on power devices (Silicon and/or WBG), magnetics and capacitors, and other digital and analog peripherals.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, simulate, and develop a variety of power electronic circuits, including AC-DC, DC-DC converters, inverters, and motor drives, meeting stringent performance, cost, and reliability targets.
  • Support simulation activities using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, or similar, helping to build and analyze models.
  • Develop schematics using CAD tools such as Allegro, Eagle, or Orcad and collaborate with PCB engineers on layout development.
  • Participate in the prototyping and testing of power electronic circuits and components under guidance.
  • Help with the assembly and validation of test setups and perform measurements in the lab.
  • Assist in the documentation of design details, test procedures, and results.
  • Gain exposure to relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements for power electronics in EV applications.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to understand system-level requirements and interactions.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis of issues encountered during testing or production under supervision.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • B.Tech/M.Tech with specialization in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
  • 2-4 years of experience in the design and development of power electronic systems like motor drives, DC-DC converters or chargers.

Must Have Competencies:

  • Proficiency in electric circuit design and analysis involving power devices, gate drivers and passive elements.
  • Good understanding of common topologies for power converters and inverters.
  • Proficiency in Microcontrollers and peripherals like PWM, ADC etc.
  • Hardware and firmware debugging skills for troubleshooting.
  • Competence in performing DFMEA and implementing DFM, DFA, and DFR principles during the design phase

Good to Have Competencies:

  • Experience with non-idealities in power electronic devices like diodes, MOSFETs, transformers and inductors.
  • Knowledge of layout and how it impacts performance.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC compliance and safety standards like UL, VDE, IEC, or BIS.
  • Proficiency in simulation and design tools such as LtSpice, PSIM, MATLAB, Allegro, or Hyperlynx.
