Job Description

Role Overview

  • Design, develop, and optimize complex database solutions using PostgreSQL.
  • Collaborate with application developers and data engineers to ensure high-performance and scalable database implementations.
  • Support data migration, ETL processes, and schema design to meet business and technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions in PostgreSQL.
  • Perform query performance tuning, indexing strategies, and optimization of long-running processes.
  • Assist in schema design, table partitioning, and creation of materialized views.
  • Write ETL scripts and batch jobs for data processing and transformation.
  • Migrate data from legacy systems or other RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, DB2) into PostgreSQL.
  • Monitor and proactively address slow queries and database performance issues.
  • Collaborate with application developers, data engineers, and architects to implement efficient data structures and access paths.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL in production environments.
  • Strong SQL skills, including query optimization and performance tuning.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL internals and analyzing explain plans.
  • Proficiency in PL/pgSQL functions, procedures, and triggers.
  • Exposure to data migration using COPY, FDW, or data loaders.
  • Understanding of indexes, constraints, and transaction isolation levels.
  • Knowledge of other RDBMS like Oracle or MySQL is a plus.
