Role Description/Purpose

The PMO Manager provides financial, governance, risk, and operational support for programmes and projects within the English and Exams Business. This role ensures that the project document library is maintained and that project artefacts comply with PMO standards. The PMO Manager also supports the onboarding of new project team members. The role requires the ability to build highly effective working relationships with stakeholders to ensure governance is effective, while also serving as a key source of project information and metrics.

Role Accountabilities

The British Council is seeking a PMO Manager to provide financial, governance, risk, and operational support for programmes and projects within the English and Exams Business. This role plays a vital part in ensuring that project artefacts comply with PMO standards and that the project document library is maintained to the highest quality. The PMO Manager will also support the onboarding of new project team members, requiring strong relationship-building skills to work effectively with stakeholders. In addition, the role will serve as a key source of project information and metrics, helping to ensure governance is effective and delivery is aligned with strategic priorities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrable experience of working as a PMO professional, dealing with complex global programmes and/or projects that are both technical and process-driven.
  • Demonstrable ability to plan, structure, and manage the hard scope of a programme, delivering tangible outputs through documentation, systems, and assets, as well as the soft scope of engaging people and managing effective change through communication skills, benefits tracking, and realisation.
  • Demonstrable experience of proactively monitoring programmes and keeping them on track by flagging risks and issues by exception.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels to support the successful delivery of programmes and projects.

Role specific skills

  • Good IT skills, including MS Office 365, MS Project (or similar), and Finance SAP
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Work Schedule: The role follows a hybrid model, with rotational shifts, including night shifts.
