About the Role

At Mareana, we build Enterprise-Scale AI/ML-powered products for Manufacturing, Sustainability, and Supply Chain. As our platform continues to scale across multiple cloud environments and customer deployments, we are strengthening our Platform Engineering capabilities.

We are looking for a Platform Engineer who is passionate about building automation, simplifying infrastructure operations, and enabling developers to move faster through self-service platform capabilities. The role focuses on developing internal platform tooling, implementing GitOps-driven deployments, and managing scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure environments.

You will work closely with DevOps, engineering, and architecture teams to build standardized deployment pipelines, reusable infrastructure components, and automation that reduces operational complexity.

This is a true Platform Engineering role — not a traditional DevOps or single-cloud Cloud Engineer role. If your experience is limited to running CI/CD pipelines without building developer-facing platform capabilities, or to a single cloud provider, this role is unlikely to be the right fit.

What You'll Do

• Design and evolve Mareana's Internal Developer Platform (IDP) to enable developers to deploy infrastructure and applications through self-service workflows.
• Identify repetitive manual processes across development and operations and implement automation to improve reliability and efficiency.
• Implement and maintain GitOps-driven deployment workflows using ArgoCD or FluxCD for Kubernetes environments.
• Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins (Jenkinsfile, Groovy, declarative pipelines) and Git-based workflows to automate build, testing, and release processes.
• Provision and manage scalable cloud infrastructure across both AWS and Azure using infrastructure-as-code practices (Terraform, OpenTofu, or equivalent).
• Build reusable infrastructure modules, deployment templates, and internal tooling consumed by other engineering teams to standardize environment provisioning.
• Develop automation scripts and platform utilities using Python and Bash to improve system reliability and reduce operational overhead.
• Implement monitoring, logging, and observability integrations using Prometheus, Grafana, and similar tools to improve platform visibility and operational response.

Mandatory Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate hands-on production experience in ALL of the following. Skills-list mentions, certifications without project work, or exposure / learning / labs will not be considered as meeting these requirements.

• 4–6 years of hands-on experience in Platform Engineering or Cloud Engineering roles with a clear platform focus.
• Hands-on production experience with BOTH AWS and Azure (multi-cloud experience is required, not preferred). Single-cloud candidates — AWS-only or Azure-only — will not be considered.
• Hands-on experience building or contributing to an Internal Developer Platform, self-service infrastructure workflows, or reusable platform components consumed by other engineering teams. Examples: golden paths, controlplane/dataplane separation, Backstage, Crossplane, Port, or equivalent IDP frameworks.
• Production experience implementing GitOps using ArgoCD or FluxCD — not just CI/CD pipelines that happen to deploy to Kubernetes.
• Hands-on Kubernetes experience including deployments, services, ingress, Helm, and cluster operations on EKS, AKS, OpenShift, or equivalent.
• CI/CD pipeline development using Jenkins — Jenkinsfile, Groovy, declarative pipelines, master-slave configuration, or integrations with Git, Nexus, SonarQube.
• Strong scripting and automation skills in Python AND Bash / shell. Both are required for day-to-day platform work.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Strongly Preferred

• Golang scripting and tooling experience for platform utilities and operators.
• Exposure to Kubernetes platform extension concepts — Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) and Custom Operators.
• Experience with Terraform / OpenTofu module design, Terragrunt, or Crossplane for infrastructure abstraction.
• Hands-on production experience with Prometheus and Grafana for observability — building dashboards, alert rules, and SLO tracking.
• Familiarity with service mesh (Istio, Linkerd) and policy engines (OPA, Kyverno).

Not a Fit If

• Your experience is single-cloud only (AWS-only or Azure-only).
• You have CI/CD experience but no developer platform / IDP work.
• ArgoCD or FluxCD appears in your skills list but not in your project work.
• Your role has been primarily middleware administration, application support, or production support without infrastructure ownership.
