Platform Engineer (Backend / Systems)
At AiSensy, the Platform Engineering team builds and maintains the foundational systems that power large-scale messaging, automation workflows, and real-time customer engagement.
As a Platform Engineer, you will design and build highly scalable backend infrastructure, developer platforms, and distributed systems that enable product teams to ship reliable features faster. This role is ideal for engineers with strong backend development experience who enjoy working on system architecture, infrastructure tooling, and performance optimization.
You will work closely with backend engineers, DevOps, and product teams to build resilient systems capable of processing millions of WhatsApp interactions daily.
This is a high-impact role shaping the core infrastructure of one of India's fastest-growing SaaS platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Platform & Infrastructure Engineering
- Design and build internal platforms and infrastructure systems that support high-scale messaging and automation services.
- Develop tools, frameworks, and services that improve developer productivity, system reliability, and operational efficiency.
Distributed Systems & Scalability
- Architect and implement distributed backend systems capable of handling millions of WhatsApp messages per day.
- Design systems for high availability, fault tolerance, and horizontal scalability.
Backend Systems Development
- Build scalable backend services using Node.js, Express.js, and event-driven architectures.
- Develop and maintain high-performance APIs and internal service frameworks.
Data Systems & Performance
- Design efficient MongoDB schemas, indexing strategies, and query optimizations for high-volume workloads.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, latency issues, and memory inefficiencies.
Platform Reliability & Observability
- Implement logging, monitoring, alerting, and debugging frameworks for platform services.
- Improve system reliability, incident response, and operational visibility.
DevOps & Cloud Collaboration
- Work closely with DevOps to manage CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Docker).
- Contribute to infrastructure automation and deployment tooling.
Research & Innovation
- Research and evaluate new technologies, distributed system patterns, and infrastructure tools to improve platform capabilities.
- Prototype and implement scalable architectural solutions for evolving product needs.
Engineering Excellence
- Write clean, modular, and well-documented code.
- Participate in design discussions, architecture reviews, and code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
Qualifications
Must-Haves
- 5+ years of software development experience, with strong backend engineering exposure.
- Hands-on experience with Node.js, Express.js, and MongoDB.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous programming, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience designing and building high-scale backend systems or infrastructure components.
- Familiarity with Docker, Git, and cloud environments such as AWS.
- Strong knowledge of data modeling, indexing, and database performance optimization.
- Experience working with production systems handling large-scale traffic.
- Strong problem-solving skills and system design abilities.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with Redis, message brokers (RabbitMQ, Kafka), or pub/sub systems.
- Familiarity with real-time systems (WebSockets, streaming pipelines).
- Experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration platforms.
- Exposure to GraphQL, serverless architectures, or event-driven microservices.
- Experience building internal developer platforms or infrastructure tooling.
- Background working in fast-paced SaaS or product engineering teams.
