Key Responsibilities:
- Piping Material Selection & Specifications:
- Review project specifications, drawings, and codes to determine the material requirements for piping systems.
- Develop material specifications, datasheets, and requisitions for all piping materials (including pipe, fittings, valves, gaskets, flanges, etc.).
- Select appropriate materials for the specific service conditions (e.g., pressure, temperature, corrosion) in compliance with project standards and industry codes (ASME, ASTM, API, etc.).
- Procurement & Supplier Coordination:
- Coordinate with the procurement team to source materials, ensuring that all materials meet the project specifications, quality standards, and delivery timelines.
- Evaluate and select suppliers based on cost, quality, and delivery performance, and manage relationships with vendors.
- Ensure that procurement of materials is within the project budget and schedule.
- Material Control & Documentation:
- Monitor and track the delivery of materials, ensuring compliance with project timelines.
- Maintain detailed records of all material purchases, deliveries, and any deviations from specifications.
- Assist in managing material inventory and provide recommendations for stock levels.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure that all materials are delivered in accordance with quality standards and meet safety regulations.
- Review material test reports (MTRs) and certificates of conformity to ensure materials meet the required specifications.
- Perform material inspections, when necessary, to verify that the delivered materials meet quality and specification requirements.
- Collaboration & Coordination:
- Work closely with the design team to ensure that piping materials are selected based on the latest design requirements.
- Coordinate with construction teams to resolve any material-related issues that arise during installation.
- Support project managers and engineers with technical queries and material-related decisions.
- Standards & Codes Compliance:
- Ensure all materials comply with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM, API, ANSI, etc.).
- Keep up to date with changes to material standards and regulations, ensuring continuous compliance.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Provide regular reports on material status, procurement progress, and any material-related issues to the project management team.
- Document material-related decisions and issues, and prepare material-related reports for internal use or client reporting.
- Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:
- Address and resolve any material-related issues encountered during fabrication, construction, or testing.
- Troubleshoot material non-conformances, identify causes, and recommend corrective actions.
Qualifications & Experience:
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Certification in piping or materials engineering is an advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum of [X] years of experience as a Piping Material Engineer or in a similar role within the oil and gas, petrochemical, or power industries.
- Proven experience with piping materials, selection, and procurement in a project-based environment.
- Familiarity with various piping materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy materials, etc.) and industry codes/standards.
- Experience with material requisitioning, vendor selection, and quality control processes.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of piping materials and specifications.
- In-depth understanding of international standards, codes, and regulations (ASME, ASTM, API, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to interact effectively with vendors, clients, and internal teams.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in using material management software and MS Office tools (Excel, Word, etc.).
