Job Description

Purpose of Role

Reporting to the Head of the High School, this role provides structured counselling and support to students and colleagues, enabling them to effectively address social, emotional, behavioural, and learning challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify emotional/social/behavioural needs through regular observations and discussions with division heads and grade level coordinators.
  • Plan and implement targeted interventions and counselling sessions.
  • Deliver sessions on social and emotional learning with clear learning objections and success criteria.
  • Work with parents collaboratively while addressing student needs.
  • Providing psychological support to staff members.
  • Develop positive working relationships with faculty and administrative staff to achieve desired goals.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact positively and develop good working relationships with students and staff.
  • Proficient ICT skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage young people to address the difficulties they are experiencing at home/school that affect their ability/willingness to learn.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent team-working skills, as well as the ability to work creatively and independently.
  • Passion for learning and self-development.
  • Flexibility and growth mindset.
  • Self-management and ability to deal with pressure.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Specialised educational qualification preferably at master's level.
  • At least two years experience as a student counsellor (school setting will be desirable).
  • Understanding of mental health and emotional well-being issues, including knowledge of academic, emotional and social issues which may affect young people.
  • Knowledge of a range of evidence-based interventions used to deliver group and individual sessions to improve young people's emotional wellbeing.
