Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in Bengaluru for a PDF Accessibility Specialist. The specialist will review and remediate PDFs to meet accessibility standards, including tagging structure, reading order, and proper use of headings, lists, and tables. Daily responsibilities include creating accurate alternative text for images, charts, and other non-text elements, and ensuring documents comply with WCAG, PDF/UA, and other relevant guidelines. The role involves collaborating with production and quality assurance teams, performing detailed accessibility checks, and documenting issues and resolutions. The specialist will also contribute to process improvements, maintain accessibility best practices, and support training or knowledge-sharing initiatives within the team.
Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of PDF accessibility standards and guidelines, including WCAG and PDF/UA.
  • Experience with PDF remediation tools and workflows (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, CommonLook, or similar accessibility tools).
  • Ability to create clear and accurate alternative text for images, graphs, and complex visual elements.
  • Knowledge of EPUB conversion processes and accessible digital publishing practices.
  • Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and ability to work with structured and unstructured documents.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Comfort working on-site in Bengaluru and managing full-time, deadline-driven production tasks.
  • Preferred: prior experience in accessibility, digital publishing, or related fields; familiarity with screen readers and assistive technologies; degree or diploma in a relevant discipline (such as Publishing, Design, IT, or Communications).
