Pattern Master (or Patternmaker) translates a fashion designer's 2D sketches into functional 3D patterns. They are critical to apparel manufacturing, overseeing sample development, fit integrity, and size grading.Key ResponsibilitiesPattern Drafting & Grading: Manually draft patterns or use CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Tukatech, Lectra) to create accurate templates for sampling and bulk production. Grade patterns by scaling measurements up and down for different sizes.Fit Integrity & Correction: Conduct fit sessions on mannequins or live models, evaluating drape and proportion. Correct and refine patterns until they match the design's structural and aesthetic goals.Sample Development: Supervise tailors and sampling teams to construct prototype garments (protos), advising on stitching and garment construction.Efficiency & Costing: Analyze fabric properties to minimize waste, maximize fabric utilization (marker planning), and provide accurate data for garment costing.RequirementsExperience: Typically 5 to 10+ years of experience in the apparel export or manufacturing industry.Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of garment construction, pattern drafting, and size grading across various fabrics (knits, wovens, and specialized wear).Software Skills: Proficiency in digital pattern-making tools (CAD, Adobe Illustrator, or TUKAcad).Soft Skills: Meticulous attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a strong ability to collaborate with design and merchandising teams.
