Job Description
Description: Lead Healthcare Integration Architect Medical Device Integration
Experience: 1215 years (minimum 5 years in healthcare integration)
Location: Bengaluru / WFO
Role Type: Technical Leadership / Hands-on Architecture
Domain: Healthcare IT, Medical Device Integration, HIS/EMR Interoperability
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Lead Healthcare Integration Architect to spearhead our medical device integration initiatives within a large-scale digital healthcare transformation program. The individual will be responsible for defining the integration architecture, establishing interoperability standards, evaluating integration platforms, and leading the integration of medical and diagnostic devices with clinical applications, including HIS/EMR systems.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring the ability to independently drive technical discovery, collaborate with medical device vendors and clinical stakeholders, and establish a scalable integration framework.
Key Responsibilities
1. Integration Architecture & Strategy
- Design and establish an enterprise-wide medical device integration architecture supporting multiple healthcare applications and clinical workflows.
- Evaluate and recommend integration platforms, including Mirth Connect (NextGen Connect), and define reusable integration patterns.
- Establish integration standards for real-time and batch data exchange, transformation, validation, monitoring and error handling.
- Define an architecture that supports future expansion into FHIR-based interoperability and centralized clinical data repositories.
2. Medical Device Integration
- Lead technical discovery covering medical device capabilities, communication protocols, vendor APIs, SDKs and data formats.
- Design integration solutions for diagnostic equipment, laboratory analyzers, patient monitoring devices and other clinical devices.
- Work with device manufacturers and vendors to establish connectivity and data exchange requirements.
- Ensure accurate device-to-patient mapping, clinical data validation and integration with patient records.
3. HIS/EMR & Clinical Interoperability
- Define integration approaches between medical devices, integration middleware and HIS/EMR platforms.
- Establish interoperability using HL7 v2, FHIR, DICOM and proprietary protocols, as applicable.
- Collaborate with application teams to integrate device-generated clinical data into existing clinical workflows.
- Ensure alignment with clinical data standards, security requirements and applicable healthcare regulations.
4. Technical Leadership & Delivery
- Own the technical roadmap, integration architecture and implementation strategy.
- Lead proof-of-concept implementations and establish reusable integration components.
- Define technical specifications, effort estimates, resource requirements and implementation plans.
- Identify technical risks, external dependencies and integration challenges, and establish appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical leadership to integration developers, engineers and vendor teams as the integration practice expands.

- Experience with cloud-native integration architectures and Azure or AWS.
- Familiarity with ABDM interoperability requirements and healthcare data protection regulations.
- Prior experience establishing an integration team or leading an enterprise healthcare integration program.
Expected Outcomes First 90 Days
Timeline
Expected Deliverables
First 30 days
Complete device and vendor discovery, assess existing systems, define the target integration architecture and recommend the integration platform.
3160 days
Establish integration standards, finalize technical specifications, execute a priority device integration proof of concept and define the implementation roadmap.
6190 days
Establish reusable integration components, initiate priority integrations, implement monitoring and error-handling mechanisms, and finalize the integration team structure.
Key Success Criteria
The individual will be accountable for establishing a scalable, secure and reusable medical device integration framework that minimizes point-to-point integrations, reduces dependency on individual device vendors and enables seamless clinical data exchange across the healthcare ecosystem.
Hiring priority: Candidates must have demonstrated, hands-on experience delivering medical device integrations. Experience limited to general enterprise API integration or HL7/FHIR implementation without exposure to medical devices will not be sufficient for this role.
