What is the Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a
Parks Operator I. In this role, you'll be a key part of the Parks & Open Spaces team, operating a variety of equipment and helping to maintain parks, playgrounds, multi-ways, athletic fields, and outdoor ice surfaces. You'll also play a leadership role by training and supporting seasonal staff, ensuring safety standards are followed, and helping us deliver top-quality service to the community.
This is a
safety-sensitive position that requires both technical expertise and a commitment to teamwork, safety, and community service.
What will you do
As Parks Operator I, You Will
- Operate and maintain a range of park-related equipment, including mowers, skid steers, tool cats, backhoes, and other powered equipment.
- Work in various landscaping and horticultural areas throughout the City of Leduc
- Perform snow and ice control on sidewalks and multi-ways and assist with outdoor ice maintenance.
- Conduct playground, cemetery, athletic field, and trail maintenance to ensure safety and usability.
- Support community events and initiatives by coordinating equipment or staff resources.
- Liaise with contractors and community groups to ensure city standards are met.
- Maintain compliance with OH&S requirements, including hosting safety meetings and completing inspections.
Who you are
You're a Skilled Operator With a Strong Safety Mindset And a Desire To Contribute To a Team That Keeps Leduc's Parks Thriving. You Bring
- A high school diploma (or equivalent).
- A valid Class 5 driver's license with a Q endorsement is required, and a Class 3 driver's license would be an asset.
- Current certifications such as WHMIS, TDG, OH&S, and First Aid.
- Equipment operation certifications (e.g., loader, backhoe, forklift, skid steer) or a willingness to obtain them.
- A minimum of 3 years related experience in municipal equipment operations.
- Previous supervisory or training experience (asset).
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to interact with staff, contractors, and the public.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and in varying weather conditions
