Packing Supervisor Roles & Responsibilities (Pharmaceutical Industry)
1) Production & Packing Operations
* Supervise and coordinate primary and secondary packing activities as per approved SOPs and Batch Packaging Records (BPR).
* Ensure packing operations are carried out according to the production plan and timelines.
* Monitor line clearance, start-up, in-process checks, and end-of-batch activities.
* Ensure correct usage of packing materials such as cartons, labels, foils, bottles, blisters, leaflets, and shipper boxes.
2. GMP & Regulatory Compliance
* Ensure strict adherence to GMP, SOPs, and regulatory guidelines (WHO-GMP, USFDA, EU-GMP, etc., as applicable).
* Maintain data integrity and proper documentation as per ALCOA principles.
* Participate in internal audits, regulatory audits, and customer audits.
* Ensure proper segregation and identification of approved, rejected, and quarantine materials.
3. Documentation & Records
* Review and ensure accurate completion of Batch Packaging Records, logbooks, and daily activity reports.
* Maintain line clearance checklists, equipment usage logs, and yield reconciliation records.
* Report and document deviations, incidents, and non-conformances.
4. Manpower Management
* Allocate manpower effectively across packing lines.
* Train and guide operators on SOPs, GMP practices, and safety procedures.
* Monitor discipline, attendance, and productivity of the packing team.
* Ensure all personnel follow personal hygiene and gowning procedures.
5. Quality & Yield Control
* Ensure packing yield reconciliation and investigate discrepancies.
* Coordinate with Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) for in-process checks and batch release activities.
* Ensure proper handling of rejected, damaged, or excess packing materials.
6. Equipment & Maintenance Coordination
* Ensure packing machines are operated safely and efficiently.
* Coordinate with the Engineering / Maintenance team for breakdowns and preventive maintenance.
* Ensure equipment cleaning, calibration status, and validation compliance.
7. Inventory & Material Control
* Ensure availability of packing materials as per the production plan.
* Coordinate with Stores/Warehouse for issuance and return of materials.
* Minimize material wastage and optimize resource utilization.
8. Continuous Improvement
* Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency enhancement.
* Support initiatives for cost reduction, productivity improvement, and quality enhancement.
* Participate in CAPA implementation and follow-up.
Key Skills Required
* Knowledge of pharma packing processes (blister, bottle, strip, sachet, etc.)
* Strong understanding of GMP, SOPs, and regulatory compliance
* Leadership and team-handling skills
* Documentation and communication skills
* Problem-solving and decision-making ability
