The OT Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Operation Theatre complex, ensuring efficient utilization of resources, adherence to clinical protocols, patient safety, infection control standards, and smooth coordination among surgeons, anesthetists, nursing staff, and support services. The role focuses on maintaining high-quality surgical services while ensuring compliance with hospital policies and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Manage and supervise the overall functioning of the Operation Theatre complex.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate daily OT schedules to ensure optimal utilization of theatre resources.
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, nursing teams, and other departments for smooth surgical operations.
- Monitor OT turnaround time and implement measures to improve efficiency.
- Ensure availability and proper functioning of surgical equipment and instruments.
Clinical Quality & Patient Safety
- Ensure compliance with patient safety protocols and surgical safety checklists.
- Monitor adherence to infection prevention and control practices within the OT.
- Conduct regular audits of OT procedures, documentation, and quality standards.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and adverse events and implement corrective actions.
- Support hospital accreditation requirements (NABH, JCI, etc.).
Team Management
- Supervise OT nursing staff, technicians, and support personnel.
- Prepare duty rosters and ensure adequate staffing coverage.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide training and development opportunities.
- Foster teamwork and maintain a positive work environment.
Inventory & Asset Management
- Monitor and control OT consumables, implants, and surgical supplies.
- Ensure timely procurement and replenishment of inventory.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and calibration of OT equipment.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and control costs.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure proper maintenance of OT records, registers, and reports.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, statutory regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information.
Financial Management
- Monitor OT-related expenses and optimize resource utilization.
- Assist in budgeting, cost control, and operational planning.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) / Allied Health Sciences.
- Master's Degree in Hospital Administration (MHA), Healthcare Management, or related field preferred.
- Valid nursing registration (if applicable).
Experience
- 8–12 years of experience in Operation Theatre services.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a managerial or supervisory role within a hospital OT setting.
- Experience in NABH/JCI-accredited hospitals is preferred.
