Oracle Database Engineering Manager - Autonomous Recovery Service (RCV)
Oracle Database Engineering is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the Autonomous Recovery Service (RCV) team - the engineers responsible for delivering highly available, secure, and resilient recovery capabilities that protect customer data when it matters most.
This is a high-impact leadership role for a technical manager who thrives on building strong engineering teams while staying close to complex, mission-critical production systems. You will lead engineers, influence service architecture, drive operational excellence, and act as a trusted escalation point for one of Oracle Database Engineering's most critical services.
What you will do
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team responsible for the reliability, operation, and continuous improvement of the Autonomous Recovery Service.
- Stay deeply engaged in production operations, including technical escalations, incident response, architecture reviews, and complex troubleshooting.
- Own the end-to-end service lifecycle, including provisioning, deployments, patching, upgrades, security updates, backup and recovery, maintenance, and decommissioning.
- Apply deep technical expertise in Oracle Database, RMAN, ZDLRA, Exadata, OCI, and related infrastructure to guide engineering decisions and resolve complex issues.
- Drive improvements in service reliability, scalability, security, observability, capacity planning, and overall customer experience.
- Lead incident response efforts, root cause analysis, post-incident reviews, and the implementation of durable corrective actions.
- Reduce operational toil through automation, orchestration, self-service capabilities, and responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools.
- Partner closely with software development, database engineering, infrastructure, security, product, and business teams to deliver reliable cloud services at scale.
- Set clear execution priorities, grow technical depth across the team, and foster a strong culture of ownership, learning, and operational excellence.
What you bring
- Strong hands-on expertise in Oracle Database engineering and recovery operations, including RMAN.
- Experience with ZDLRA, Exadata, OCI, or comparable cloud infrastructure and distributed systems environments.
- Proven engineering management experience, with a track record of coaching engineers through technical challenges and career development.
- Experience operating highly available production services, including incident management, root cause analysis, capacity planning, and reliability engineering practices.
- Strong technical judgment, accountability, and the ability to lead calmly and effectively during customer-impacting incidents.
- Experience improving automation, monitoring, observability, deployment pipelines, and operational readiness.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with engineers, senior leaders, customers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
