Summary
Apple is where individual imaginations gather together, committing to the values that lead to great work. Every new product we build, service we create, or Apple Store experience we deliver is the result of us making each other's ideas stronger. That happens because every one of us shares a belief that we can make something wonderful and share it with the world, changing lives for the better. It's the diversity of our people and their thinking that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do. When we bring everybody in, we can do the best work of our lives. Here, you'll do more than join something — you'll add something.
This role involves bridging traditional test engineering with modern software, cloud, and data infrastructure and translating that into practical factory deployments.
Description
With the explosive growth of iOS products, we have built a new opportunity to work on the most exciting new products introduced by Apple. We are seeking a leader to be responsible for the Test Engineering team for iPhone's new product projects. You will be responsible for architecting, implementing and maintaining an effective test, and calibration strategy in the manufacturing supply chain and transferring mass production test coverage from development into production. Right from working with multi-functional teams including Engineering, GSM, Capex to working closely with our Contract Manufacturers and Suppliers. Given the importance of these product lines, this position has a high level of visibility in the Operations organization, with executive level communication necessary on a frequent basis.
Responsibilities
- Own NPI build readiness at CM sites, including readiness gating, DFT deployment, and ramp execution at factories.
- Build and scale a growing Test Engineering team in India, including driving pipeline development and closing open requisitions within defined timelines.
- Manage contract engineering resources, drive accountability within CM test teams, and maintain process compliance across India manufacturing sites.
- Collaborate with software and data engineering teams to deploy test automation platforms, data observability tools, and AI-assisted diagnostics in a manufacturing environment.
- Lead a high-performing team of individual contributors responsible for deploying high-volume manufacturing test solutions across multiple fast-paced, concurrent programs.
- Partner with Engineering and Operations teams from concept through repeat manufacturing and end-of-life, delivering robust end-to-end test solutions and ensuring seamless deployment across the manufacturing supply chain.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to define requirements, review and approve test system designs, and lead the implementation of complex factory test systems.
- Own the capability and competence roadmap for Contract Manufacturer (CM) test teams - closing skill gaps, standardizing practices, and enabling CMs to independently sustain and troubleshoot test operations.
- Drive continuous improvements in manufacturing test processes to enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and production scalability.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to third-party vendors, automation suppliers, and Contract Manufacturers, ensuring factory test systems are successfully deployed, scaled, and sustained across multiple manufacturing sites.
- Champion Design for Testability (DfT) by driving early manufacturing engagement, incorporating FMEA methodologies, and ensuring alignment with Engineering Requirements Specifications (ERS) and product design targets.
- Design and develop test processes to improve quality and efficiency, applying statistical methods (SPC, Cp/Cpk, correlation analysis, DOE) on high-volume manufacturing test datasets to drive yield improvement and early failure detection across multiple factory sites.
- Prepare and present concise Test Engineering program status updates to senior leadership on a regular basis.
- Team Management:
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Test Engineering team by hiring, coaching, and retaining top talent while setting clear goals and driving accountability for outcomes.
- Foster individual and team growth through regular 1:1s, continuous feedback, coaching, and tailored development plans aligned with career aspirations and business needs.
- Drive a high-performance culture by managing performance effectively, recognizing and rewarding strong contributions, and addressing performance gaps in a timely and constructive manner.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to build a strong pipeline for current and future hiring needs, and maintain robust succession plans for critical engineering roles.
