About JAASN Consultants LLP
JAASN is a specialist consulting and analytics company that works at the intersection of Operations, Innovation, Data Analytics, and AI/ML.
We partner with large organizations to solve high-value, real-world problems by combining:
- Deep business and process understanding
- Creating Innovative Solution Ideas
- Data Analytics and AI / ML
- Creating tools and software applications
We are a small, fast-evolving startup with big ambitions and a strong bias towards thoughtful, high-quality work.
Role: Senior Operations & Process Engineer
Role Summary
We are looking for a Senior Operations & Process Engineer who can be a key problem-solver across JAASN's industrial projects.
In the near term, you will spend a significant part of your time:
- Understanding how complex plants and processes actually run
- Assessing the quality and meaning of the data they generate
- Supporting analytics / optimisation work with deep process insight
In the long term, your role can grow into broader engineering and operations problem-solving, including:
- Identifying and structuring new improvement opportunities
- Supporting the design and rollout of decision-support tools
- Leading engineering workstreams within client engagements
You will not be writing code or AI/ML models, but you will be a core partner to those who do, ensuring that everything we build is anchored in operational reality.
Key Responsibilities
1. Process understanding & mapping (initial focus)
- Map selected processes end-to-end: equipment, flows, operating modes, cleaning / maintenance cycles, control strategies etc
- Work with operations, technical services, instrumentation, and maintenance teams to understand how the plant actually runs, beyond what manuals and documents say
- For critical measurements and tags, document:
- How they are measured
- Typical operating ranges and limits
- Calibration practices and known failure modes
- Common manual overrides or workarounds
- Create clear documentation on process reality and data quality that JAASN and analytics partners can rely on
- Help annotate runs / campaigns / events with context (maintenance, feed changes, abnormal events, operating changes)
2. Partnership with analytics & modelling teams
- Work closely with JAASN's data scientists and external analytics partners to:
- Clarify process nuances and constraints
- Review modelling assumptions for realism
- Interpret analytical results through an operations lens
- Help separate data artefacts from true process behaviour
- Bring in practical judgement on what is implementable in day-to-day operation
3. Engineering problem-solving & implementation
- Work with JAASN and client teams to identify new improvement opportunities in operations, reliability, and efficiency
- Lead or co-lead engineering workstreams: root-cause analysis, hypothesis development, simple experiments, and implementation planning
- Contribute to the design of decision-support tools (what information is needed, which thresholds matter, how operators should use recommendations)
- Help build internal JAASN playbooks on how to do good engineering + data work in complex operations
- Potentially mentor junior engineers as the team grows
- Where relevant, work alongside senior external experts (for example retired chemical engineering advisors) and convert their guidance into structured on-ground work
Ideal Profile
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Chemical, Mechanical, or a related process engineering discipline
- Experience: 712 years in refinery, petrochemicals, speciality chemicals, or other complex manufacturing / process industries, in roles such as:
- Process / operations engineer
- Technical services Optimisation engineer
Skills & Attributes
- Strong understanding of process operations, equipment behaviour, and control logic
- Comfortable with PFDs, P&IDs, control narratives, and historian / DCS data
- Curious and sceptical about data: you naturally ask, What does this number really mean, and how do we know it's right
- Able to build trust with plant teams while still asking nave or difficult questions
- Strong structured thinking and documentation skills; able to turn walkthroughs and conversations into clear, usable artefacts
- Enjoy a mix of on-site plant time and desk-based analysis / documentation
- Comfortable working with consultants and data scientists; you like explaining the real world to them
Role Details
- Location: Mumbai or Pune based; with travel to client sites (for example Kochi, other locations) as needed
- Type: Full-time role with JAASN
- Reporting to: JAASN leadership team
- Compensation: Competitive market salary, aligned with your experience and the stage of the company, with room to grow as JAASN scales
Why this role might be a good fit
- You enjoy being close to real plants and processes rather than only doing desktop analysis
- You like working at the intersection of engineering and analytics, not in silos
- You enjoy working closely with a small, high-calibre team where your thinking has visible impact
