Brief Description
Summary/Objective
The Operational Risk Business Analyst will play a pivotal role in the implementation and enhancement of risk management strategies within the Operations group. This individual will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across all operational activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering a risk-aware culture. Working across the First and Second Lines of Defense, the Analyst will collaborate with various departments to maintain an effective risk control framework.
Essential Functions
- Risk Identification and Assessment: Conduct thorough analyses to identify potential risks within operational processes, employing a standardized risk scoring methodology to prioritize issues based on their impact and probability.
- Control Implementation and Testing: Work closely with the First Line of Defense to develop, implement, and evaluate control measures, ensuring they are effective in mitigating identified risks and compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Issue Management and Remediation: Track and report on ongoing issues, collaborate with relevant departments to conduct root cause analyses, and develop actionable remediation plans.
- Change Management: Assist in the evaluation of operational changes or new regulatory requirements to assess risk impacts and ensure appropriate controls are updated or established.
- Compliance and Monitoring: Monitor compliance with established policies and procedures, conducting regular self-assessments and supporting internal and external audit activities.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare and present detailed risk reports for management, highlighting key risk indicators, control effectiveness, and remediation progress.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with various stakeholders across the organization to ensure a unified approach to risk management, fostering open communication and sharing of best practices.
Competencies/Skills
- Knowledge of current industry laws and practices
- Ability to analyze risk data and trends to make informed decisions.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
- Highly effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Knowledge of mortgage servicing processes and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with quality assurance software and tools.
Work Environment
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Ability to sit for long periods of time is essential.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
- This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Education And Experience
- 5+ years of mortgage servicing experience.
- Experience in Risk Management, or a related field, with a focus on operational risk
- highly preferred
- Proven track record of working with compliance frameworks and enhancing risk protocols.
- In-depth knowledge of mortgage servicing processes, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
