Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Operation Theatre Technician role based in Chennai. The Operation Theatre Technician will assist in preparing operation theatres by ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterilized, functional, and arranged according to surgical protocols. The role involves supporting the surgical team during procedures by handling instruments, managing equipment, and maintaining a sterile field. The technician will help with patient positioning and transfer, verify patient and procedure details, and assist with pre-operative and post-operative room setup and turnover. Responsibilities also include managing inventory of OT supplies, adhering to infection control and safety standards, documenting relevant procedure information, and collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff to ensure safe, efficient surgical care.

Qualifications

  • Formal qualification/diploma in Operation Theatre Technology or an equivalent allied health program from a recognized institution.
  • Prior experience as an Operation Theatre Technician or in a similar perioperative support role in a multi-specialty or tertiary care hospital is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile techniques, infection control protocols, and safe handling of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Ability to follow clinical directions accurately, maintain composure in high-pressure situations, and respond promptly during emergencies.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with surgeons, anesthetists, nursing staff, and support teams.
  • Willingness to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays, as per hospital requirements.
  • Attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to patient safety and quality of care.
  • Basic computer literacy for updating records and working with hospital information systems.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with relevant local/state health authorities, where applicable.
