Zycus is looking for an experienced Senior OpenShift Administrator / Platform Engineer (7–12 years of experience) to manage, optimize, and support enterprise Red Hat OpenShift environments while driving automation and AI-enabled operational improvements.
Because OpenShift relies entirely on the underlying operating system, this role places an equal, heavy emphasis on deep Linux OS administration alongside container orchestration. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between low-level system engineering (RHEL/RHCOS) and high-level platform orchestration (Kubernetes/OpenShift), ensuring robust cluster health, rapid troubleshooting, and seamless DevOps enablement.
Location: Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune
Key Responsibilities
Primary Platform & OS Administration
- Cluster & OS Lifecycle Management: Administer and manage enterprise Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) clusters and their underlying Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) / RHCOS nodes across dev, test, and production. Lead installations, configuration, upgrades, patching, and scaling.
- Deep-Dive OS Troubleshooting: Diagnose complex issues at both the container layer and the OS layer (systemd, journald, storage mounts, kernel parameters, network interfaces, and SSH).
- Kubernetes Resource Management: Manage OpenShift resources including Pods, Deployments, Services, Routes, ConfigMaps, Secrets, Persistent Volumes, Storage Classes, and Operators.
- Performance Tuning: Monitor cluster and node-health, capacity utilization, system memory/CPU allocation, and performance bottlenecks at both the Kubernetes and Linux kernel levels.
- Security & RBAC: Manage platform authentication, authorization, access controls, OS hardening, SELinux policies, and security context constraints (SCC).
- Infrastructure & Storage: Configure and maintain network policies, DNS, load balancing, Ingress, and storage solutions (CSI drivers, NFS, SAN/NAS integration at the OS level).
DevOps & Infrastructure Automation
- Automate operational tasks, OS provisioning, and configuration management using Ansible, Terraform, and shell scripting.
- Support CI/CD pipeline integration and GitOps practices for seamless application deployment on OpenShift.
- Implement robust backup, disaster recovery, and high availability strategies at both the cluster and storage levels.
AI & AIOps Innovation
- Leverage AI-powered tools and automation capabilities to improve infrastructure monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency.
- Use GenAI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot) for scripting support, documentation, and troubleshooting analysis.
- Explore and adopt AIOps practices, such as anomaly detection, predictive monitoring, and automated incident remediation.
- Support deployment and scaling of AI/ML workloads on OpenShift.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Primary Technical Core (Mandatory)
- Experience:7–12 years of dedicated experience in Linux administration, Kubernetes administration, and OpenShift administration in enterprise environments.
- Linux Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of Linux OS (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu/RHCOS). Must understand Linux internals, kernel tuning, storage administration (LVM, multipath, partition tables), and system-level troubleshooting.
- OpenShift & Kubernetes Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift (OCP) planning, deployment, multi-cluster management, operator frameworks, and lifecycle management.
- Container Runtime: Deep understanding of containerization concepts, runtime environments (Docker, CRI-O), and container security.
Secondary Technical Skills
- Networking & Security: Solid understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, routes, firewalls, iptables, load balancers, Ingress/Egress policies) and OS-level security (SELinux, PAM, SSH).
- Automation & IaC: Strong proficiency in Ansible, Terraform, Bash/Python scripting to achieve Infrastructure as Code.
- CI/CD & GitOps: Experience with tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, ArgoCD, or Tekton.
- Observability: Hands-on experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK Stack, Splunk, or Dynatrace.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) or equivalent technical degree.
