ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own end-to-end operational delivery for an assigned collections portfolio — defined by client, facility group, payer segment, or patient-pay tower — across cash, aging, resolution, quality, cost, and compliance.
- Own the monthly and quarterly cash forecast for the portfolio; track actual against forecast, explain variance with root cause, and drive credible recovery plans.
- Manage, coach, and develop two to five Team Leaders and Sr. Team Leaders; set objectives, run structured performance reviews, build individual development plans, and own succession planning for the leadership layer.
- Drive accounts receivable performance — reduce days in accounts receivable, improve net collection rate, reduce the percentage of AR beyond 90 and 120 days, and control bad-debt and denial write-off leakage.
- Own inventory and capacity management: volume forecasting, staffing and skilling models, span design, seat and licence utilisation, shrinkage control, and overtime budget governance.
- Lead denial-prevention and root-cause elimination programmes, working upstream with Registration, Eligibility, Authorisation, Coding, Charge Capture, and Payer Contracting to remove recurring causes rather than reworking symptoms.
- Act as escalation owner for the portfolio, resolving second-level patient complaints, payer disputes, and client escalations with documented outcomes and preventive follow-through.
- Exercise an elevated delegated authority on adjustments, refunds, settlements, hardship arrangements, and write-offs; maintain approval integrity and segregation of duties.
- Own operational client governance — prepare and lead weekly and monthly business reviews, manage the SLA scorecard and action log, and maintain a constructive, transparent day-to-day client relationship.
- Own the hiring plan for the portfolio: workforce requisition, interview panels, selection quality, onboarding experience, certification throughput, and early-attrition control.
- Drive productivity and cost improvement through automation and robotic process automation, workflow redesign, worklist and dialer strategy optimisation, digital self-service payment adoption, and propensity-to-pay segmentation.
- Own the compliance and audit posture of the portfolio; sponsor corrective and preventive action, close audit findings, and partner with Compliance, Privacy, Legal, and Internal Audit.
- Provide budget inputs and manage controllable spend: headcount cost, tooling and licences, overtime, and incentive spend; track cost to collect against plan.
- Design and govern incentive and recognition schemes for the portfolio in partnership with Human Resources and Finance.
- Own engagement and retention for the portfolio, including engagement survey action planning, skip-level discussions, and targeted retention interventions for critical talent.
- Own business continuity, risk management, and remote-work compliance verification for the portfolio.
- Support transitions, pilots, and new-scope implementations, including process documentation, training readiness, and stabilisation to steady state.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Proven second-line leadership capability — demonstrated success managing managers and building a high-performing leadership layer.
- Deep commercial and operational understanding of US healthcare revenue cycle economics: net collection rate, days in AR, cost to collect, denial write-off, bad debt, and cash conversion.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to own a cash forecast, interpret a profit and loss statement, and manage a controllable budget.
- Capacity planning, workforce modelling, and operational analytics capability.
- Confident, credible client management — able to lead a business review, absorb pressure, negotiate priorities, and rebuild trust after a service failure.
- Structured problem solving and transformation capability; Lean or Six Sigma methodology applied to measurable outcome.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint; strong working capability in Power BI or Tableau; SQL literacy preferred for independent data interrogation.
- Executive communication — able to move fluently between floor-level detail and senior leadership summary.
- Talent development capability: assessment, coaching, succession planning, and retention of critical talent.
- Change leadership — able to carry a leadership layer and front line through system, process, and organisational change.
- Sound governance instinct: control ownership, approval integrity, risk identification, and escalation discipline.
- Resilience, decisiveness, and ownership under sustained commercial and client pressure
